Using kerosene to clean internals?

I got mate who works for Holden who I trust but I just want to check something; when I asked him whats the best way to clean out the internals of an engine he told me this: To empty about a quarter of the old oil out of the engine and replace it with the same amount of kerosene, run the engine till it started to smoke a little bit then proceed to turn it of and go about changing the oil as normal. Apparently this works a treat and gets rid of all the old crud in the oil system, but Im not to keen to put kero in with the oil, so whos done this or can confirm this procedure works? If at all. Thanks matt.

Thanks matt. dont know if kero works but ive seen it done with diesel with good results but all the old oil was removed and 5litres of diesel poured in and the car was run for about 20 seconds then left to sit for a while and the process repeated a few times. worked great

buy a cheap bottle of oil from coles then fill engine with it after you drain the deisel, run for ten minutes then dump cheap oil,and fill with your good stuff. that way its clean as fark with no diesel and no crap to discolour your new oil. pure honey.

been running mine on synthetic for about 15 years, no sign of crud or any resin or any crap - even though I have sometimes gone 10,000 ks with my 3L turbo through country as well between oil changes even in middle of summer, There are some strong diesel detergent oils, Not keen on the idea of kerosene though - even for short periods it can upset the hydrostatic film in the bearings and metal to metal contact for even a short period can start things going awry - also dont like the idea of it possible washing the bores, but if it is really only for a few mins then it might be ok, if it was me I would stay with synthetic but if I did notice any crud I'd prob use a strong detergent oil instead then go back to synthetic.

well it hasnt got chunks of sh!t in it or anything, just a bit too thick. so ill probabily play it safe and go with your suggestion mike, better than spinning a bearing anyway.

Those engine flushes that you buy in the store and pay like $10 for 300ml are 80% Kero with some other crap that does nothing. You can buy 4L of kero from Kmart for that. I heard that ATF is also good. You drain 1L of oil and replace with 1L of ATF. Your drive the car for about 100 - 200km gently no high reving or boosting. And do an oil change are per usual. But nothing can be better than proper maintanance to prevent those things.
