Im lookin at ways to mount my monster tacho at the moment, and im pretty sure im gonna put it on the A pillar, as low as possible, so it pretty much sits next to the windscreen wiper controls. My question is, how do you actually bolt it to the A pillar? cos if u use a bolt, how do u get a nut behind it etc, cos it would be inside the pillar? basically i need a step by step on how to bolt a tacho to the A pillar.

i have put 5" tacho in commy and nissans i always put them in that corner spot and i screw them into the dash then use a king crome ratcheting spanner to tighten the bracket up around the tacho i do it the same way every time

i believe the best spot other than in the dash is on the left side of the steering wheel under the dash facing up, cops dont see it and its staring at you when your shifting, then just mount the light in the dash cluster or alongside it

I like the a-pillar spot but you have to make sure you really get it right down in the corner, looks crap as if its sitting half way up the pillar. I screwed the mounting bracket into the a-pillar by pilot drilling then using self tapers. Pretty sure you can get the same location screwing to the side of the dash, quite the fiddle to get it in there but can be done, and looks much better-er for your effort

Gday NightmareZVL. Ive included a pic below of where my tacho and shift light is mounted. Its pretty straight forward to do. All you do is take the little black bracket after you have trial fitted it in the correct spot, then you use 2 self tappers and screw securely into the pillar. As you can see from the pic, mounting it low like I have, you will have to cut some of the plastic on the wiper binnacle switches (a little bit fiddly). Then you can screw one side of the silver loop/bracket onto the black one on the pillar, then put the gauge in and screw in the other side of the silver bracket. As you can see, my gauge and light is mounted lower than the top of the steering wheel, so there is no issues with it being illegal. Also, when my gauge was wired up by my best mate who owns an auto electrician business, he put a plug onto the wires just behind the gauge. So when I want to remove tacho for any reason, I just unplug it....easy Admittedly, you may not have a 100% unobstructed view at the 4 and 5 thousand rpm mark unless you move head slightly to the right, but I only look at the tacho when Im playing back my run. The LED shiftlight advises brightly of when to change at my selected rpm. The tacho never needs to be looked at when changing gears....thats what the shiftlight is for.
