g'day iv found a vr disk to disk solid axel diff for $200 and i was wondering if it wld bolt into a vl sedan. i already know its 20mm shorter on each side but other than that will i have any hassels?
chears
I think you'll find that its actually longer on either side. Other than that, the mounting points should match up.
If you're really after a disc brake rear end, you're better off either getting a VL Calais diff or doing a conversion on your drums using VN calipers (or the like). I've got a complete VN rear disc setup (no diff etc) if you're in need.
I just got VL Turbo axels put in my vl cause apparantly its stronger cause i put a mini spool in,
Dosen't really have much to do with this but i just wanted to belong

lol that's gotta be the quote of the week!
Dont quote me on this but Im fairly sure they are the same as a VN diff no and the hand brake cable is attached differently on the calliper causing you to need a VN or woteva hand brake cable which needs to be modified to work. Do what I did goto ebay and type VL V8 diff single spinner. Most people have no clues what they are worth because it doesnt have the word TURBO next to it and you can pick them up DAMN cheap. I got mine for fark all and ive seen them in the trader for like 150, then all you need to do is source an LSD centre(roughly 200 second hand) and you have yourself a VLT diff for 350. I mean VL V8 diff...... But you get my point.
Thats true Munroe. They go for peanuts on eBay. Or you could be REALLY lucky like me and get an entire VN SS LSD diff for $50
Solid axles are the same width VN to VS, and won't suit a VL (in regards to width, mounts might line up). Calipers can be fitted, but like Munroe, said, handbrake cable differs.
If you don't want an LSD VLWAGONIT, you can pick up a VL diff disc fairly cheap from a variety of places. Just keep in mind that the axles will differ between open wheel and LSD (25 spline open, 28 spline LSD [and open V8]).

Commodore handbrakes aren't operated via the caliper, and the VN handbrake cable won't work as it is about a metre too long.
VL disc brake cable is the only way to do it, and requires no modification.

If your not using VL callipers, you need the VN because the VL one doesnt reach to VN onward callipers. it maybe longer but its VERY easy to get it setup correctly with a few minor mods.....
Please stop trying to correct me VLHERO, you got your info from me

Dude, the cable DOES NOT go to the calipers. It goes to the handbrake actuators which are located in the anchor plates. The only difference between VL and VN setups is the anchor plates are opposite from VL (top) to VN (bottom). The VL cable is still the only way to do it (apart from a custom made cable) as the cable distance is identical between the two setups.
And this is irrelevant but rear calipers are the same from VB-VS.
Stop trying to correct me when clearly you are wrong.
Well, either way, if VLWAGONIT wants the discs/calipers from me, hes not getting a cable - I don't have it. Everything but.
VL Calais disc brake handbrake cables are dirt cheap from wreckers etc, as are VN ones. If one doesn't work, big deal - you lose a couple of bucks.
You two guys need to get over this pissing match already.

I said reach to the calliper as in LENGTH wise ya tool. The VL cableis too short to reach....... Hows about you go do this conversion so you stop posting incorrect information.... Ive done both, I KNOW what im talking about.
Yeah, I've been watching it go on for weeks. If not longer.
I think VLWAGONIT has his answer though. Good luck to him.
If you're interested in the VN setup VLWAGONIT, drop me a PM.

It doesnt need to reach anywhere near the caliper. If it did reach the caliper it would be FAR too long in fact.
