mmm, Interesting link, I'm particularly stunned by the para towards end:- "However, if one set of wheels loses traction completely, the Torsen differential will be unable to supply any torque to the other set of wheels. The bias ratio determines how much torque can be transferred, and five times zero is zero. " It would therefore be of benefit to brake (or retard) the wheel that is spinning freely... What impressed me about the torsen when I first heard about it some 20 years back was its sheer simplicity, I wondering if a revision these days, given clever hydraulics couldnt provide differential bias to avoid the exception in the above para or give the mechanism the sense that the spinning wheel has a basic torque offset then it would be 5 x offset goes to other wheel... Dont think the locker is as optimum as I'm considering, I'm not looking for launches, I'm looking for the traction on sand/dirt/unsealed etc when going country and not bogging one wheel down on the edge of camp sites etc

Considered a Lokka Mike? They are designed for the purpose you have in mind after all..

Torsen's are not too bad for light to mild duties but if your going to beat on it they don't like it...... they explode like a grenade.... they do however have really nice street manners as they are not a 'preloaded' unit so to speak..... They are however totally different to a Locker.... Depends what you like I guess.... and as far as I know there is no torsen for the borgwarner yet... I do know Quaife was working on one but I don't think it has become available yet.. even if it did it would cost more than most would be willing to spend.....

You can get em for more like $1300 if you look around. Although some people think that the "E" word is dirty around here

Wow... $1185 is cheap.... but I gotta say this.. Its people like this who are f*cking the automotive aftermarket industry......internet parts whores who pimp out products at really low prices cos they are happy to make 2% on a product because they have no overheads probably dont pay GST and the like and work from a tin shed in their back yard they dont have a work shop or staff no running expenses other than stock..... even then most the time they dont carry stock they will simply make a sale then get one in as they need it......anyhow end of rant... carry on Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
