hey all, just very interested to know whether chopped springs are actually illegal,or whether its just the actual height.i want to drop my vl abit but am concerned as to whether it will void my insurance because they are chopped, even though the company knows the car is lowered.i dont think i can show my face at a cruise on the weekend with my vl higher than stock.thanks guys...

its unlikely your Insurance company will investigate unless you kill 10 people and burn 4 houses down in an accident...but yes illegal...having said that, a few years back I had a car inspected at Regency Park here in Adelaide and the inspector has my car on the hoist, spring under no load just dangling there...Lol...turns to me and says 'looks like someones been cutting these springs...looks about the right height anyway...' and he let me off. But yes illegal! Dangerous? Well, thats debatable....

idiot question. it is not only illegal, but a bad idea. go buy new proper lowered springs, they dont cost very much and will be a) legal, b) safer, c) make your car handle better, d) make your car look better. If you can not afford $200 for new springs, then sell your car - you don't deserve it. Thread Closed.
