Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting one of these screens for my VT Calais: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-Inches-In-D...QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-Inches-In-Dash-touchscreen-LCD-DVD-Player-TV-USB-Car_W0QQitemZ320146022492QQihZ011QQcategoryZ67772QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) I was just wondering if they are any good and if anyone has had any experience with them. Also, do you know if I can do a straight swap from the factory system to this system? I'm currently using the factory sound system, here is a pic of the current audio setup (factory): Thanks in advance! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

this is a double din sized player anmd the i think stock vt system is a double din so it should all fit in nicely. someone else clarify for me?

correct, VT is a double din, so any double din deck will fit.... if it was a single din there'd be a empty gap (the size of a normal mp3 player) above or below it (depending where u installed it) but the double din will 100% replace the factory deck

Since you have a calais you would also need the Steering wheel > CD player buttons to be converted for your new cd player. I Remember seeing something on ebay its like a new wiring loom that you wire up to your old controls.. Didnt look into it much cant really help Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Oh yeah that's true, I'd have to check out the steering wheel wires as well. So now, overall, does anyone know how good one of these system will be? By the way, the ebay add states its from Hong Kong but I can get one of these in Melbourne for about $10 cheaper. I'd just like to know how good they are. Thanks.

lol yeh it looks pretty cool so long as its reliable and works properly etc if u end up getting it make sure u post up here how it is sound wise/visually etc.like the idea of replacing the dodgy looking VT unit with a screen Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah if I end up getting it i'll definetly post up how it performs here. just one thing is concerning me at the moment The stock unit is 260W where as this unit is 4 x 45W. Is this a major issue?

Is this a major issue? not if u run amps are u just going to be running the stock sound gear in the car or have a bigger setup in mind? Itll probably run the speakers ok, but probably not as good as the stock unit as i assume it would be matched well with the speakers to give good sound quality. I dunno at the end of the day theres only really one way to find out but if ur really after sound quality id suggest buying an amp or two and some nice new speakers for it anyway, possibly a sub if thats how u roll. There u go, VL 88 WA is the man u want to talk to what is the user interface, tv reception etc like on them? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

That deck will fit perfectly in the stock 2din slot, I've installed a few of these, they're not a bad unit, Video and sound quality are great. especially for the price. It will push your factory speakers easy with 4X45. no problem. but the steering wheel controls will not work with it. oh and be careful opening it when your in park, it'll get dangerously close to the shifter. All I can say is that you get what you pay for. Must be a reason for it being so cheap. I work in retail of electrical goods, and normally you do get what you pay for (to a degree).

Yeah, the plan is in the future to go for a new sound system (speakers, sub, amps etc) but for now I'm just going to be running to stock gear as it's actually pretty good for a factory system. Another thing I have thought about is the bass boost (mini sub) speakers that come stock in the car. I know the screen has FR,FL,RR,RL speaker connections but I'm not sure on how the sub speakers work. My mate has a generic dvd player 7" lcd in his VL and it works perfectly.

I think your question is answered then...get the same generic brand lcd that your mate has Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

hmmm im not very familiar with the sound systems in the luxury commodores of around that time so theres the speakers in each door? speakers in the rear doors? speakers in the parcel shelf? just wonder if maybe theres an amp somewhere thats off the head unit, i think with the later model commodores (VY, VZ, VE) when u get the premium sound system upgrade u get an amp for the sub and maybe the speakers but not 100% on that maybe u should just pull it out and have a look wats coming out of the back of it?

My mate has a VY Calais. In the rear parcel shelf (not visible from inside car) there is 2 subs (aka mini bass speakers etc). I think they are about 7". My mate upgraded with 2 better ones from Audio Store and it made a bit of difference. But instead of doing things twice, it would be better to save up for a decent system and do it all once and do it well. This is a couple of pics of my daily VS S pack with recent stereo install; Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Very nice mate, looks really good. I know I have a speaker in each door and two in the parcel shelf (the bass speakers). However, I'm not quite sure if there are speakers on the actual dash (next to the dimister). I'll have to check it out.

You will probably find the tweeter up on the dash next to the demister vents near windscreen

Yeah that's what it seems to be. I have one on each side.
