hey guys, i've got a mx7 gearbox in my calais turbo at the moment that still works pretty decent and was thinking to rebuild the gearbox, but on the other hand was just thinking to sell the gearbox and invest in an r33 gearbox just because i heard they can cop more sh*t... just curious if any u fellaz could suggest a wise move? cheers

I've heard that the R33 is the toughest RB box out there. Supposedly can handle 900hp. If I had the money, I'd have one sitting behind my flywheel, thats for sure.

I just got one... Will have it all bolted up soon... But very rarely do you ever hear them going bang... They cost around 41500 but if you shop around and wait, your bound to pick one up for cheap. They are almost the same as an MX7 box, but have double syncros in 1st and 2nd i believe and have a bigger oil capacity. Everything else is pretty well the same (including tailshaft, speedo etc) However, the skylines ran a 9.5 inch flywheel/clutch and the VL turbos run a 10inch. Some say there 10inch setup fit the 33 box, where others say it hit on the bell housing.

r33 boxes also munch syncros though, i think its normally 3rd to 4th gear they get a bit iffy. both boxes are good though the r33 one will have generally have less KMs and a shorter throw from what i remember when driving one

It also has better gear ratios, with a 1st you can actually use Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
