got pulle dover last night by the po po and to cut a long story short they have reported me to the EPA, so i will be required to get an epa test. So need some advice. my car has 3" exhaust from turbo back with hollowed cat, intercooler, pod filter, boost controller, catch can So i can take off the cooler and fit the standard cross over pipe, remove the boost controller remove the catch can. I need to get hold of the standard intake **** (in front of the turbo), a cat, need to know how the breathers hook up on the rocker cover to the intake and sh*t. is there anything else I have missed. if anyone has any of the **** I need would they be willing to sell to me or lend to me just for the epa test?

epa's the worst, basically take all your aftermarket gear off n put stock.

Yeh bring the car back to standard if you need a hand as i use to rip apart my vl 3 times a day. I can give you a hand. But as sam mentioned epa is the worse. If it was a defect quick and easy get a rwc your done. But good luck with the epa

i wouldnt be stressing about it, alot of people get told by the police that they will be reciving a letter from the EPA, sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. unless you were doing something stupid and/or the cop just didnt like you for what ever reason then you might not even get the letter. so i sugest just waiting for a week to see if it comes through. leave the cooler, put a stock airbox back on, chuck a stock exhaust on with a legal cat, remove boost controller & catch can and it should be fine. you never know, you might just recive a noise test, not a full EPA inspection. if so then thats even easier. if you recive just a noise test then it costs $30 for the test.

keep in mind before u do everything it could only be an exhaust noise test..some police just send them, then u have the assholes that give u full emissions test

nah its a full emissions test. i rang the EPA and they said the test is free. but what a pain in the ass

basiclly stock exhaust,stock intake, stock boost!...if anything hide the boost controller!...and put it on like 2psi ...then u will pass for sure!i got that stock intake parts off the turbo ect..there all for sale!..ask me if u wanna put a deposit on the products u need and them if u steal them i keep your deposit!..like a bond!...but if u bring them bak as is..then its for free! sorry to hijack your thread but how ppl get epa'd. i know u get caneried when the cops check your car but i donno about getting epa'd. they jsut see alot of mods and say get them tested or soemthing

mmmm, I wouldbe inclined to leave the catch can on if its vented into the crankcase through the PCV valve or somewhere where there is neg pressure for some flow to avoid going to atmosphere however, if it does vent to atmosphere then yeah take it off. Intercooler is ok, though suggest turn your boost down, you dont want a boost leak making your AFR too low when its tested, though I doubt they will do a full dyno emissions test. Definitely need the cat working and might consider using a tank of the latest Shell stuff which they claim reduces emissions, maybe it just has a bit more alcohol in it, oxygenated fuels might well result in less emissions for the amount currently used. But as someone said, you might not get a letterand if you do it should spell out what they want to check and you should have time to change things and you can always write back and object its too soon, due to some personal issue etc, then select time weeks later then their first suggestion etc... @IMFSTR Could be if cops see burst of black smoke from you gunning it - especially if you have modded ECU or burst of greay smoke if you have hollowed the cat, though that will still result in blacksmoke as well it all depends how hard, sometimes its just a habit if they feel somethings not right...

should make a sticky topic for all epa questions and answers mods. it would be very helpful. 3 inche could pass as long as its not over 90db, put all your standard emission gear on and you will be fine. people exagerate that the epa are ****ed. they are not they just do their job if you do a half ass job and think you can trick them they will get you

i never thought i could trick them at all. but who wants a VL with a cat no cooler and pod and standard boost. BORING

<hrrrm> CAT works well as a muffler, I have a 3" in/out cat and almost completely free flowing muffler and its fine, the minor change in power from going to the trouble to destroy the guts of a CAT just isnt worth it. Also rather have all those cars going past me when I am on the coffee strip with my friends have CATs - I dont want to breathe in the extra NOx & CO.

what would you gain from havig no cat? higher pollution and a couple of kw's wow thatl make a big difference. its not like it costs an arm and a leg

I wouldn't be suprised if you got done for sound. Put a real cat on.

punching out the guts of your cat makes a vlt sound like crap... after backing off from boost sounds like the cars choking imo
