Guys, just got a brief message. It may not sound like much, but it may prevent this occuring to anybody else.
Last night I was taking my car for a spin when my accelerator got stuck with throttle wide open. Engine was roaring, I tried the brakes but to no avail.
Eventually I came to my senses and switched the car off, it was my only means to slow it down, otherwise Id have taken out many cars waiting at the lights.
Basically what happened was my accelerator cable got caught on a spark plug lead (number 3 or 4) and it prevented the throttle body from closing.
It was stuck open!!!
(I am aware the back 3 leads from factory run under the crossover pipe, I guess this is the reason why)
BASICALLY A MERE WARNING: PLEASE ENSURE SPARK PLUG LEADS ARE KEPT WELL AWAY FROM THROTTLE BODY/ACCELERATOR CABLE.
A FEW CABLE TIES AND 5 MINUTES WORK COULD PREVENT SOME SERIOUS DAMAGE BEING DONE.
REGARDS,
CAMERON.
(For those of you wondering, yeah I did **** myself lol)
mate, i have to say good on you for starting this thread, could of happened to anyone!
and i bet anyone who reads this will be checking that from now on.
I noticed the same thing on my car a while back (the leads could touch the accel cable in some situations). Whilst it didn't look to me like there was any way they could foul the cable I still cable tied them away, better safe than sorry!
Yeah quick thinking,
I might add, avoid the temptation to tie any spark leads close to any other
leads such as sensors or injectors, the ignition leads have sizable amount
of corona discharge - its not a spark its an electric field effect due to the
high transient voltages for firing the sparks. Especially keep the single lead
from coil to dizzy *away* from the dizzy signal wires. I have heard of one
guy 'somewhere' that went through 4 dizzys in fairly short time,
Best to have about 1.5 to 2" separation...
Also you'll notice the supports for the leads are all insulating (or should be),
so the corona discharge doesnt eventually cause a breach of the insulation
to pull the spark to ground.
thanks for the heads up dude, have heard a few people of late saying stories of people with there throttle bodies wide open.
will ensure everything is alright in the morning.
ahha i had a similar thing happen i was driving and all of a sudden car revs to 7gs im like wtf wtf i turn the car of and just come to a stop eventually in the middle of the road cheacked the cable and everything then i took of my cooler piping and stuck in the throttle body was the piece of mesh that was meant to be in the afm lol

lol fark, thats some serious **** man
exact same thing happened to me
set of red lights up ahead ahahah
turned the car off then managed to get around a round about
shat my pants!
but cable tie them !
Happened to a mate of mine...The cable melted to the heatshield and caught on it as he was driving into his driveway and nearly ran into his own house...
I had trouble once with a stuck throttle open... first reaction was to knock it into neutral. Once it then hit rev limiter I then turned the motor off... just be aware that if you do this - you wont have vacuum assist with the brakes.
The cause of mine was not in the engine bay. I had pulled half the dash out and forgotten to put a small black clip in the black plastic cover that goes down by the feet - its the screw clip just above the accel pedal. I pushed the accel all the way down - the cover slipped down and jammed it on.
If it happens to you - just be calm - knock it into neutral, or turn the car off (beware of Turbo Timers if you are going to turn it off - and also becareful not to engage the steering lock either!!!!).
Yep same thing happened to me in my old vn, well my mate was driving at the time... the accelerator got jammed open when he gave it a bit of gas, he panicked and ended up hitting the back of a vx clubsport before coming to rest up against a pole. The driver dragged him out the car punched him in the face. The car kept revving so he turned it off, when they opened the bonnet they found that the stupid after market cruise control cable had somehow jammed the throttle body fully open.
Well my mate told me what happened (he had borrowed the car at the time) and I though yeah bull****, you probably crashed it and made this story up. Anyway the very next day I was driving and the same thing happened to me, luckily i turned it off straight away and there weren't any cars around. Ripped the whole cruise control cable out after that! But yeah my mate ended up with a big repair bill, having to fix the rear bumper on the clubsport and basically the whole front end on my vn!
Yeah I had a stuck throttle on my first car, a ford escort, when going round
a corner doing a bit of drift, two cops walking past called me over and I
rapidly lifted bonnet and made the appropriate swearing noises when fiddling
with my throttle, trouble is it was my foot/brain that was stuck not the throttle

Ive had this happen aswell, took a mates girlfriend for a strap when mine was a manual, gave it 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear was making 243rwkw at the time so it was no slouch...clutched it after 4th gear and the thing went straight to the limiter...***n sh1t myself...tried to turn it off but in my panic forgot about the turbo timer so it sat on limiter for a a while....lifters were a bit rattly for a few minutes after that little adventure and my mates girl didnt look too impressed at my panicked state, haha.....
