Alright guys, this has got me stumped. Back before we pulled my car apart (about a year ago), all the windows worked perfectly apart from the rear left which sometimes took a couple of presses of the button before it would move- no big deal though. Now the car is back together and the driver's and rear driver's power windows refuse to budge- either from the centre console master switch or from the rear switch in the door. the Passanger front window works perfectly still and the rear passanger side window will only move 1/2 a cm down or up very slowly. In short- nothing works really apart from the passanger side front window. We thought at first it would be the master switch, so we got another one we knew was working and soldered (properly) that in, this made absolutely no difference and took ages. Any ideas of what's going on guys? The motors themselves work fine- we attached power manually to the motors with the door skin off (drivers side) and the window went up and down no worries, this tells me something is happening between the switch and the motor, or an earth somewhere possibly? Help.

1st question, why would you solder in a switch that simply plugs in?

it had been cut out of the previous car. What do you think Matt? This is right up your alley..

I cant see it being in the wiring jacky id be cleaning all the pulleys and cables and possibly be checking the window channle for restrictions or baley channle has come out. If theres still a problem after youve checked it get the window to the point were it wont move and listen to the motor and see if its trying to move or if its seized. But to me it just sounds like theres somthing in its way.

Jack, 1st im concerned your wiring is correct, this is not as simple as it sounds, if you were to cross only two wires you are going to get more issues than windows not working, you may also destroy the switch. I think you need to go step by step on the connections, test the windows work with hot wires from the centre console(after sorting which door is which) and going from there

can you just take the door trim off, get a power pack and connect it to the power window motor? and if the power window motor works the window will go down, then just reverse the connections to make it go back up... if it doesnt move then your power window motors have died.

the power window harness has a relay and a circuit breaker (located in the fuse box) If your wiring, or plugs, or switch connections are dirty or if the motors themselves need reconditioning then you may have too much resistance on the main power cable causing the circuit breaker to go (you won't hear it go kos it's in the fuse box, you'll just lose all power to the window harness for about 20 seconds till it cools and re-engages) i'd replace the power window relay, then replace the circuit breaker and have a mate lean over the fuse box and see if it's clicking out when you try the problem windows. Regardless of this I would also clean, replace or solder all the plugs in the doors (and the main plug for this harness is located on the firewall next to the the air con fan. It may need a clean-up too they sometimes corrode quite badly. If you do all that and it's still giving you problems check out this tech article. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=112866 that should get them going Hope this helps AJ Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
