My first VL was stolen and wrapped around a pole after being fitted with Solex locks. They get a big thumbs down from me. You're better off sleeping in the back seat with a shotgun.

so leave orginal locks on you recon

I've heard nothing, but crap things about Solex. Alarm and immobiliser would be better insurance.

Get your original locks re-keyed (including Boot and ignition barrel - costs about $125 all up) if you really want locks. If you're serious, get a big alarm/immobiliser setup and shave your locks.

Solex locks are secured to the door exactly the same as a standard vl door lock assembly, how could they possibly be easier to push off? Immobiliser and an alarm are 10 times better, but for the price solex locks are not too bad, an upside is people wont be able to simply unlock your car with any old worn down commodore key.

I'm thinking of getting Solex locks.

Would never buy them again , my mate from work showd me how to open them when i lost my keys , all he did was get a pair of multigrips , grabbed the housing of the lock that sticks out like 1cm past the door and twisted it around in a circle and door was unlocked!!better off sticking with your standard locks or i have seen some other brand ones that sit flush with the door and have a tappered edge that might be the go! (GHL securitly locks or something like that!)

OR better, shave your locks, keyless entry FTW!!!

Appanrently GHL locks are made by the same people that make Solex but are harder to get at as someone said above ^^^ more tapered edge. I like the deadlock feature on the GHL locks my mate has installed on his car.

i wish i had standard locks.... would have made the repair bill lower. Instead of gaining entry with just damage to the lock (max a few $$ for another lock and to get it rekeyed) - since it had solex locks, the fu*kers put the screw driver through the sheet metal of the door to pry the lock out. Alarm and immobolizer stopped the car from going anywhere (thank f*ck) - but that didn't stop them from trying (very forcefully) an old VB-VL key in the ignition. Lesson - If someone wants to get into your car enough, they will find a way. Solex locks *may* deter some prick trying for cars with standard locks as they want to use thier VB-VL key or it also *may* end up forcing them to use other means to gain entry (ie, hole in the door, smashed window, etc). If you want your car to remain where it is, get a GOOD alarm/immob, put some kill switches in, don't leave it in a train station car park (stupid STUPID me!), etc, etc, etc.

i had solex in my old VL. Thieves pierced the side of the lock with a screwdriver and popped it out. Too easy for them. The lock is only good because it has an odd shaped key, but thieves get around it. Get a good security system and/or shaved doors (no locks). I noticed some new Euro cars have no key holes in any doors (except boot). Be smart and live up to the technology otherwise you will suffer.

DO NOT BUY SOLEX. I can say with certanity that they are ****house, and easy to bypass. GHL are better, but not sure by how much. I went stock reconditioned locks for mine.
