Can it be don? as i am getting an after market speedometer, but it is an electronic sender. Cheer - Chris

Perhaps you could make a new sender from a combination of the mechanical and electronic ones together. For instance using the mechanical drive gear with a short shaft connecting to the electronic component. Space dependent too of course.

Thats what i thought. apparently you can take out the mechanical gearing and replace it with some sort of electrical one, according to some clowns at wog barn.... I wish their was someone in the industry i could talk to but it seem alot of places that i ring (ones with a name and rep) are either busy or cant really help me over the phone... Please keep em coming guys, i wanna sort this out as it will make or break my custom dash thingo im doing

try jaycar electronics...theyre pretty good in offering advise. You'd be surprised @ what they've got automotive wise.

the dash in the vl converts the the mechanical turning of the speedo drive into a pulse signal, it sends this signal to the auto box computer and the cruise control, i use this signal to run an Apexi Rev Speed Meter successfully, it can be done, get a wiring diagram, you have to set the gauge to the correct type of pulse. cant remember what it is off hand but it is either 2 or 4 pulse signal

no it is the speedo, i have used it for 3 years in my car to give a digital speed readout. everyone thinks VLs have a mechanical speedo, which is correct, but they also have give an elctronic speed signal as described above, it can and is done quite easily, just get a wiring guide and have a look at what goes to the trans computer from the dashboard
