hey guys. just want to get everyones opinion. currently my car is a n/a turbo converted vl 5 speed. the motor is untouched, just has turbo and stuff bolted on. just wondering on everyones opinoin on maybe changing it to a injected v8 with 5 speed? cheers.
id say its all personal preferance mate...
if it were me, id go the injected 5L, just coz i love the sound of a nice rumbling V8, but i know other people will say the turbo for there own reasons
Like most other questions about what is best - it depends on what you want to achieve ?
For what its worth,
a turbo is more thermodynamically efficient than a n/a for same power output
that generally translates to better economy with a turbo than a V8 but then
again that is also influenced by driving style,
So what is your desired outcome ?
whichever way i go fuel wont worry me as they'll both be going straight gas. what i dont get is why my car flogs the v8's even beat them when it was n/a. like vn-vt 5 litres. is it just because of the diff ratio? what do poeple think who have gone from turbo to an 8 or vice versa? cheers.
Ah, so if you are going for pull from the lights then go a turbo, V8 is
heavier, one reason why the VN-VT has a little more trouble... You can
always do neat things with a turbo and the RB30 block is easy and cheap
to change, well comparatively speaking, even though I go to gym and have
to rotate sideways to get through the door I used to lift an RB block np,
cant do that with a V8 <sigh>
Drop an LS1 in it, holden v8s, may they rest in peace, are old heavy tech. A stocky with intake, exhaust and tune makes easy power, idles nice and good on fuel, and if you wanna go fast....... how big is your wallet?!

yes, go the ls1, and im pretty sure leigh is making a turbo kit for the ls1 in a vl

If you have already got the engine and turbo then it would be wiser to spend money on the turbo 6, cos by the time you spend the time and money on a V8 conversion you will only have a stock V8 when you could have a mid 12 second Turbo and some cash to spare.
ive been thru all this before, had VL 308 carby, then a VLT which after 2 rebuilds i converted to injected 5.0. was good for burnouts thats about it... for power stick with the turbo.. if u wanna sit around doin burnouts go the 8 but if u want power stay away from the 8 cos u will just get let down lol
correct me if im wrong but i thought chucking the injected 8 with minimum mods (cai, full exhaust etc) got you into the high 13's. this is the way im gonna go, cant beat the sound of the 8, looks neat in the engine bay and every tom **** and harry has a RB30 in their VL's
your right, it will. but take a stock vlt, spend 3k on it and you can be in the 12s. cooler, exhaust, shift kit auto, malpassi and a good fuel pump
bang for buck, turbo is deffinately the way to go. for the money u will spend doing a 5L conversion id throw in a set of forgies, high flow the turbo and grab a microtech ecu, you will leave most eating your tyre smoke from the lights
the injected 5.0 standard is hardly going to get u 13s in a vl bud, more like mid 14's. and to modify one of them if u spent the same money on a vlt u would make twice as much power.
i love both engines, but at the end of the day unless u wanna spend 10g+ on a n/a v8 and drive around all day with a 4000rpm stall to run 11's when u could spend half the money on a turbo and they are a much better car to drive on the street.
just my opinion pplz, been there and done it many times, in VL's i have owned, and from my experiences if i was doing it again id go turbo 110% even if it comes with a few headaches as they do!
id stay with the turbo mate only because its a vl and i got a biase against vl's being turbo only...but saying that ive gone from a vl turbo to now a worked vn ss...both are quick cars but if it wasent for the unreiablity of the turbo id prefer it over an 8...but u cant beat the roar and burnout of a v8...
hey. yeah i'd go for a turbo v8. you wanna pay for it ofr me though nah dont think the cops would like that to much with the P plates decided i'll just stick with the turbo now. got the cooler piping on the way so hopefully she'll be running again next w/e. cheers.
