i fitted some new 17inch wheels to the daily vl calais and its fine around town but out on the road it drives like a shopping trolly
there vt ss wheels (the common ones on vl's lol ) 225 z r17 tyers
all tyers are new!!!!!!
is there any way of at least reducing this wobble/erratic behivour (its like im driving on cross plys)
my car drives fine on 15x205's but as soon as i put bigger rims/tyres on it drives just like your describing.
ill put my money on it being a worn steering rack, same as mine.

If the rims were bent they wouldn't balance. I don't think he's had them balanced.
There is often a bit of slack in the rack, there is an adustment for it,
take a peek under the car and there is a large flat nut with a bolt inside
it just under the steering coloumn.
if that has never been serviced then my bet is the rack "clasp" for want of
a better word is loose, you need to undo the bottom nut and bolt, inspect
it for damage and reset it so it wont let rack move up and down. Have to do
this on a chassis lift.
On 15" the tyres can take up some of the movement, I notice it on the
16" I am on and they are twins so track better - mine needs attention too...!
However, if your wheel bearings are a little loose *and* the rack is a little
loose and the wheel balance is even a little out then the whole dynamics
have changed and YES it will feel aweful when changing to larger wheels
because there is not so much reslience in the sidewalls of a 17" vs a 15" etc !
there is nothing bent and the wheels were ballanced when the new tyers were put on
ill adjust the rack at work (we have the special tools) and ill report. the mesurment should be in the oem book?
