i want facts about 9 inch diffs, after a interestiong conversation with some members i am curious to know the pros and cons of using a 9 inch compared to a vlt diff..
in talking for 350-400rwkw btw,
now is there HUGE loss in power as people have been saying?
is the strength worth the extra cost compared to vlt diff?
what would you prefer a 9 inch or a vlt diff?
any weight factors??
any myth busters about the 9 inch??
just tell me what u kno lol
thnx

Depends on what type of centre you are going to run. The LSD clutch packs arent great from my experience but if your looking at detroit locker or spools etc. theyll take pretty much what you throw at it, provided youve got good axels. Also wide range of ratios to choose from and aftermarket bits. Seems the VLT diffs with good axels and spool seem to take some punishing! Big weight difference. Just my 2c

Look beyond nine inchs and borgwarners as different options. Landcruiser/patrol diffs cut to suit. Plenty of parts for them and strong as! Dont know if they are any heavier/lighter then the 9inch.
See them in big fourbys running lockers with big tyres crawling through rocks etc and really give them a boot full alot of the time and rarely do they break. The tailshaft always seems to go before the diff/axle goes...
Just an idea...
get a set of 31 spline billet axles and full spool for around 1000 brand new...fit them to a borgy and your set...the best thing about the 9 inches is that some housings (F100's) are braced to the crapper and can take alot of punishment.

Until you mash a gearset due to it being the new weakest link. Would take alot of power though of course.
But I agree that a 9" is in most cases unnecessary given what BW's have been shown to be capable of. Saves engineering headaches too.

Closest comparison I know of is a GM 12bolt to a Ford 9" which they figure to be 3 %..... not alot really...
