Hey, My car was originally a N/A 6 - Since then i have put a carbied V8 into it and i have finally come to use the heater/demister etc and have found that no air blows against the windscreen - this is a big pain in the ass, as on cold mornings i can't see s*** as it just fogs up. I see that a lot of the heater controls (well the air directions controls) are run from a vacuum line that comes through from the engine bay. I know where this went on the 6 but i don't know where it is meant to go on the 8. Could someone please tell me where this vacuum line runs from on the factory V8 setup - Or if you could put a photo up that would be even better. I have tried searching the site but have had no luck - someone must know... Thanks in advance, Jason

Hello, on the back of your inlet manifold you should have a vacum [ christmas tree ] plastic is standard and brass aftermarket type which are by the way the most practical as if you bump it it won't break leaving you frustrated and no brakes as the vac supply for the booster comes from here, on either tree there are several spigots with the plastic one you cut off the knob on the spigot the same size as your vac hose for your ac controls and slide the hose over the end , with the brass one you might have to take out a spigot which are screwed into the main body and drill out thr end, best to drill from the inside out after removing the spigot ,cheers

calaid - thanks for that info! I figured it was on the inlet manifold somewhere - i thought it would be around the brake booster vacuum hose aswell - However i couldn't find any obvious place. Something i probably should have mentioned is that i am running an edlebrock intake manifold not the standard holden item - i only just thought about that now - infact, come to think of it - it is probably a rather vital point i missed... it's been a long day... Anyways at the moment the brake booster vac hose is running off the bottom of the carb (holley 600). The vac line for the dizzy also comes off from around here - not from the same 'fitting' - its a little further towards the front of the carb. I guess i should be looking to add some brass T piece fittings to the booster vac line and run it off there... Someone please confirm this - or correct me if im way off the mark, or if you have a better solution... Cheers, Jason

If so most only have a vacuum take-off on 1 of the back runners (shown in the pic by a bit of red plastic) what have you got connected to there?? http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...enmanifold.jpg (http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w295/mag63/V8holdenmanifold.jpg)

Hey, sorry i went to bed after i made that post - stupid, aus/nz time difference. Anyway, thanks for the pic, yes mine is the same as that. where the red plastic is on your one i have a bung blocking it up - perhaps i should look into removing this and inserting some sort of brass fitting in there to run my brake booster vacuum off. And perhaps to run the heater vac off also. As you seem to know this manifold - there looks to be a vacuum hole at the front also (opposite the edelbrock writing) - i think at the moment it has a hose running from it down to my trans (turbo 400 box) - i assume this is something to do with a vac kickdown or something... any ideas anyone?? I guess i could run the vac line for the heater off here if i got a t-piece fitting... or would it be better to run it off the back one?? Also is it abnormal to run it off the base of the carb as it appears to be set up now?? Any help appreciated! Cheers, J Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

stupid nz/aus time difference. You should look into removing your bung and inserting some sort of brass fitting in there to run your brake booster vacuum off and to run the heater vac off also get one that has more fittings on it.. Vacuum hole at the front (opposite the edelbrock writing) - that hose running to the trans (turbo 400 box) - goes to the modulator valve so the auto knows whats going on and I'd put that 1 at the back with brake booster hose, looks neater.. The one from the base of the carb should be 4 the P.C.V Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thanks for that mag. I will look into getting me some brass fittings and running it off the back port. I am not running a PCV valve at the moment so that'll be why the vac is running from the base of the carb - altho it seems quite stupid being that it could've just run from the back of the manifold. Oh well - hopefully i can get the vac for the heater sorted so i can clear the windscreen on cold mornings... Also it would be a lot better running the booster vac off the back - oh well i guess i will be removing the bung and finding me some fittings for it. What are your thoughts on running a PCV valve system - i currently just let the breathers vent to the atmosphere... I dunno if it's alright doing that or running it back through the PVC into the intake - I've had mixed answers from people. Anyways, Thanks again for all your help. Cheers, Jason

Cheers, Jason Jason I'd run the PCV system unless it's a race car.. I've put up a pic of an open pcv, and there is a closed pcv too!! just depends on what year your car is if STD. or what type air cleaner and rocker covers you use.. Also if you run your vacuum for the auto from the back of the manifold you can put a tee-piece for your heater vacuum on it. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w295/mag63/PCVV8.jpg Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I am assuming that the PCV system (in the photo) is known as an open PCV because only one rocker cover is plummed into the intake and the other is left to vent/draw in air. I believe on the VK/VL 308's they used this system (the one in the photo). So i am guessing this is the one i should use. I should run the pcv on the drivers side bank and leave the passenger side to vent? - as per photo. Big thanks again - I am learning! I know a fair bit about the RB30 but since i've installed the V8 i still am yet to learn some things. Cheers, Jason Jason Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
