RUST IN BOOT!
Just wondering is it common? this is my first vl, its a calais, under the boot matt its rusted just like surface flaky rust, is it safe to grind/ sand it off in the boot, the rust doesnt look that deep. its spread out but only in bits underneath the matt
lift the rubber off and prepare yourself for the worst, that way if you only find a bit of rust it will almost seem nice.
rear widscreen rubber may hide some aswell.
should i replace boot rubbers, you reckon thats why water is getting in, it isnt much around the seal just in the bottom of the boot, is it dangerous grinding in the boot because of petty tank? (petty tank is in and half full)
id use a power file myself, unless theres holes in you boot floor, tank shouldnt be a worry if it just surface rust,if theres holes take the tank out and plate.
nah no holes man just like the flakey paint rust.. so should be sweet to go back to metal..ill try get a power file . thanks alot for the help mate.. appreciate it
yeah bunngings aint got one any suggestions im not fussed on where i have to go to get one, or what it costs, if i cant get one ill use a power sander. reckon that'll be sweet..
Check the tail light seals as well as the garnish in between them. My old VL had a bad boot leak, the seals on all 3 were stuffed. I pulled the seals out, filled the channels with silicon then put the seals back in and refitted the lights, all good. The seals were ok, they had just squashed down over time so didn't sit flush with the body any more.

mine all seem to be like that especially the top garnish (with electronic injection and holden badge), so pull it all off and silicone the channels, thats if the seals are still alright.
simple grab a torch jump in the boot get the some1 to get a bucket and pour it over the boot around the tailights and garnish top and bottom of the windscreen im a panel beater and ive used a grinder near petrol tanks hundreds of times youll be right so grind prime rub and paint my friend
and also seal tailights with windscreen sealer dont use sikaflex coz it goes hard whereas windscreen sealer stays soft but seals
Hi everyone, sory 4 hijacking thread but i just found a small hole on me boot floor. Would like to know what my options are! Would a small amount of bog fix the problem or do i have to replace the entire floor only because of a small hole?
Floor's actually not that bad, similar to kade355's actually so yeah. I hope anyone can help. Cheers
if its under the carpet i would clean it up with a steel brush and hit it with a good kill rust, then paint it with that tar in a can. might seem bodgy but it will safe a lot of hassels
Hey mate, thanks for that......yeah, it's under the carpet, so after cleaning it up would the kill rust do the trick?? Would it also be ok if i left the hole there anyway? As long as it's stops the rust from spreading more, anything will do hey. Thanks again
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
ive got photos of the rust that was in mine b4 it got cut out
its not here with me atm, its bak home in townsville but if u want i can show u tomorrow when i go home
Its a VL, Rust around the windscreens is very common so its probably gunna be there
My Berlina had a hole in the boot floor a bit over a foot square, caused by a little hole in the trench below the rear window, right hand side. It went to town on the parcel shelf and fuel tank too.
I got a new boot floor from RareSpares for $182, and my panel shop had a new parcel shelf. Set me back $1000 to fix, and that included repainting the rear quarters, bootlid, and back (under the rear bumper).
Big bucks, but it'll last another 20 years...if you're prepared to get it done properly, consider getting your back window popped out and resealed inside AND outside.
