Hey guys i just signed up to the forum so i am not sure if this has been covered before. Anyway i have got myself a N/A VL commodore which is dual fuel atm and has 230,000kms on it. What i plan to do with it is fit a turbo set up with cooler etc and run straight gas only. I was wondering what sort of costs are invloved in doing the straight gas set up with a turbo?
Further the car needs a fair bit of work done to it so all i want to do is fit all the components for now such as turbo, cooler, exhaust, racing plenum and build up the transmission (its auto) and diff and then later pull out the motor and drop some forgies in it and turn up the boost. So i was wondering what sort of turbo setup i should go with? i want to be able to use it on the street and hopefully push it into 11's or 10's one day. So what turbo would be best for this? and when would i see full boost with it?
And i dont want to take any chances with the motor at the moment so once i fit the turbo what would be a safe power level to aim for
You can get really good power out of the NA motor, thats what I have and am aiming for around the 150Kw at the wheels before anything internal is done.
You need to check fist of all if you have the series 2 block (or R31 skyline RB30) with the oil and coolant feed lines, because that will make the whole turbo conversion more expensive.
-For a GRA stup on the standard inlet manifold your looking at about $1500-2500 since your already running LPG (if you do some of the work yourself?)
-The front mount and piping you might get for $500
-stock turbo conversions can be found for around the $1000 mark in ok condition
so if your engine is the right one I'd say your looking at 3-4 grand
I did alot of the work myself and got some good deals but am almost on the $3000 mark without a full dyno tune
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Hrrm i am not sure which series it is. How do i check that out? I have been quoted 4500 for drive in drive out service with a full dyno tune and including parts etc which are all brand new. And as for the power i am not after big hp i just want to get all the car up to scratch first and do all the bolt ons like exhaust, cooler, turbo plenum etc and then strip down the motor and rebuild later so for now i just want all the stuff fitted on the car.
