has anyone here modified the inner wheel arch to fit a larger tyre (just up to the chassis rail).
Ive heard martooks talk about bashing it in with a hammer?

There called Tubs mate :P and usually involves cutting and welding alot of stuff, not just a hammer

i think turbro was just refering to givving the inners a good "reshaping" rather than mini-tubbing..
you can't really get much more room on the inners though anyway as the the section of steel behind the rear seats but's into there... but with big wheels' (20's with 245+) or any tire bigger than say 245 you sometimes need to massage where it rounds out if you know what i mean (esp if lowered!)

yeah reshaping is exactly what im after.
ive got 19x9.5 on the rear with 245 and a shortened diff.
so do i just attack it with the sledge wherever the tire gets close to the inner wheel arch?
also how much clearance do i need to allow for body roll between the inner side of the tire and the inner wheel arch?

Attacking with the sledge sounds like the go man, you wont need a lot of clearance, i'd have a guess and say if you can get 5mm then that should be heaps.
I'd suggest getting some underbody deadener once youre done to cover up all the hammer marks : )
You fitted them rims up yet? Pics?

So have you got a shortened diff for it?
VL must be slightly different in the actual guard design because I reckon they fit better than that on Jases VN...have you got adjustable Panhard?
They will look bloody tough though man ; )

it sits an inch lower than that now.
i havent fitted the shortened diff yet, just dummied it up.
im shortening my diff 15mm each side, so i can cruise around with the top of the rim in the wheel arch

03-07-07, 18:33 GMT+10#12 i just used a big lump hammer.. sledge is a bit large to swing around in there.. i went with about 5mm clearence... make sure you repaint the inners, that way it looks good and you can see if it still rubs!
wheels look good. 9.5's are pretty damn wide.

27-07-07, 00:14 GMT+10#19 White wheels bring that baby to life! I've always wanted to see a VL on white rims but was too afraid to try it myself.

I spoke to a panel beater and he said to do the same thing as the guy above said.
Where ever the tire/rim goes near the body bash it in.
Car come back from paint in 2 weeks (hopefully).
