Motec M48 advice, is it really worth it?

I'm starting to look at ECU's for the 500+hp RB30 engine I'm currently putting together. I can get a Motec M48 (with full wiring loom, sensors and even a 044 pump) for around $3000 (maybe a bit less). Just after people's opinions as to whether or not it's really worth going to a Motec over some of the cheaper (but still very good, Microtech for example) ECU's on the market, and if people think that's a good price or not. I'd also love to hear from anyone that's had a Motec or had experience with tuning with them.

E-Z you're kind of right. I think BT meant "yes" to it is worth it, however when this Motec ECU I'm looking at costs about twice that of other ECU's which I know are still very good, I'll wait for a bit more feedback from people than just a yes.

it comes down to the tuner more so... your mechanic/tuner might be able to tune a certain ecu better then a motec. So i'd speak to your prefered tuner and ask them what they are more comfortable with using..

as said you need a tuner who is familiar with the ecu you have but don`t buy a cheaper ecu just because one particular tuner can`t tune them,i say get it if you can afford it i recommend mick at ovaboost in malaga he is a pretty good tuner who has done a few motecs, he did genki`s old setup off of theses forums and did an excellent job.

What size injectors are you running and will you be running sequential or multi point. If your tuner is "worth his salt" he will be about to get good results out of any management. Some he may be more familiar with (quicker) but with a bit of exploring all the fuel and timing setting are pretty accessable. Go (full sequential injection) if you are going to run say 600cc+ injectors as it starts to get hard to control larger injectors in multi point at light engine loads/idle. If you are going to go all out with optional outputs/inputs for racing (wheel speed, W/B air fuel etc) go the motec. If you want an ecu to just do your fuel and timing and maybe boost get something cheaper. Either way get a tuner you are happy with and is competent. The end result will 99% in the hands of your tuner and the setup of your ecu.

Well I should've guessed I'd get this kind of answer. Reading between the lines I'd say it depends on a number of factors regarding my engine combo. I'd say I will get Mick at Ovaboost to do my tuning, I've already spoke with him and he's pretty comfortable tuning with my most decent aftermarket ECU's (and from all accounts does a brilliant job). For now I'll probably go with a slightly cheaper (but still good quality) ECU for what I'm doing now (when I go for 450rwhp I'll go Motec). I'm going to be running the std bottom end and turbo (only about 10-12psi), hybrid intercooler, with a custom inlet plenum and probably 600cc injectors (going 600cc so they'll see me through to higher hp outputs than I'll be getting now) with a malpassi fuel reg. Any suggestions on what other ECU's would be good for around $1000-1500 would be much appreciated. Cheers to everyone for their advice.
