Just wanted to know if anyone here has put an LS1 into a VL. I haven't seen any around.. I wanted to buy a VLC Injected 5L, but then again, a VL with a VX GTS wouldn't be too bad either.. So anyone know someone? or know if they would fit, and how much modifying is involved in doing this? Also wanted to list injected 5.0 V8 and LS1 & LS2 power figures.. VS SI (Berlina and Calais) - 165 VS SII ( " ") - 168 VS CLUB - 185 VS GTS - 215 (Is this a standard 355ci?) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VT SS SI - 180 VT SI CLUB - 195 (Holden 5.0) VT GTS SI - 220 (Holden 350 - 5.7) VT Senator - 195 (Holden 5.0) / 220 (LS1) VT SS SII - 220 (LS1) ALL VT SII HSV - 250 (Except GTS) VT GTS SII - 300 (Calloway) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VX SS - 225 VX CLUB R8 - 255 VX GTO - 285 VX GTS - 300 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VY SII (Berlina and Calais) - 235 VY SS SII - 245 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Correct me if I'm wrong - And fill in the gaps... Cheers, Todd

no worries, cheers... Common interest, I wanted to know the power throughout the models, why not? Just did a search, didn't come up.. Also wanted to know the power figures so if I was to put an LS1 into my VL, I wanted to know the power diff between the VT SS SI and the VY Club for example..

ls1+ would perform a world better in an earlier commodore.. vt's+ are fat, heavy, and had irs... in a vl stock they would fly, with mods they will fly harder.. with forced induction or stroker kits e.t.c.. no limits www.rodshop.com.au (http://www.rodshop.com.au) have the kits.. they will def become very popular with time

Thanks for that mate - I'll check it out.. Would you agree with putting in a VX GTS?

not really biggest reason being youll probably pay a fair bit for it.. from memory thats the calloway motor (not 100%) and just from the name they might charge a lot for it.. really youll be better off buying a cheaper standard gen 3 and putting in your own cam (calloway is basically just a small cammed gen3) and make more power.. its so easy to get power from these engines its funny. Plus while you've got one out for a conversion putting in a cam will be a breeze, same with heads and springs etc if you wanted to play them with too. Theres definitely an LS1 vl, its like blueprint ford blue coloured and had a walky kit from memory, saw it in some mag. there will be a lot more coming out for sure.

yeah I understand what your saying.. so would it really matter what LS1 model I chose if wanted to play around with the heads? and how are the valves on the LS1's? So the VX GTS had a smaller cam, but more power.. didn't realise. My dad and are in the middle of building a HX Caprice, but we decided with the VT SI because of the bigger valves and it was the best of the 5.0L and would also bolt up to the TH400. But now that the engine is being built, we're not so sure if was the best way to go in the end. My dad's mate races in the utes and oran, wakefield, and eastern creek. And he's building the engine for us, 'cause he knows the 5.0L inside out and backwards.. so many months were talked before buying the VT wreck. But what do you think?

VT 5 litre will be much cheaper, and they have a roller cam. Any 5.7 will be expensive, but different in an older car. With a tune and exhaust, its easy to see 230rwkw from a Gen III, let alone a GTS motor.

LS1s are still very expensive to buy, a brand new engine is around $7000, without harness and computer. Not only that, i believe it is a big job to fit into a VL as they are a fairly large engine. If you want to use a chev, with what it's going to cost to drop a stock LS1 in, why not build a 383 stroker with injection. Will have more power, be built to your specs and will drop right in without a hassle.

TWO89 - Yeah true, thats what I was thinking, it I was buy a VLC inj 5.0 it would have to be a VT - best of the 5.0L But like sinister said, its easy to make power out of the LS1. ELA-RE - If I was to buy an LS1, I would play with it, wouldn't drop it straight it. Also I'd buy a wreck, and take what I need. But I understand what you mean, build a 383 from a VT and it would go in with no mucking around..

But what do you think? i mean the GTS motor had a cam bigger than factory, but still pretty small.. any decent aftermarket cam will leave it for dead. if you can get past the price to acquire the motor and the conversion, its win win everywhere. They're something like 50kg lighter than a holden 8, more power, better economy, huge aftermarket now, head/cam packages, bolt on supercharger kits, bolt on turbo kits...

If you are on a budget.... run... run for the hills it aint cheap..on the other hand if you have the $$$'s go for it... its a very nice conversion but as pointed out costly as hell!

Have a search through Street Commodores forum and get the info from the guys who have put them into VN-VS Commodores. I thought about doing a VR GTS with an LS1 but after reading about it I quicky changed my mind Whats wrong with a supercharged 355 stroker in a VL?

ive been looking into dropping an ls1 into an e36 BMW. a few people have done this. ive seen a few ls1's + 6speeds for $5k. of course you dont know the condition but if your handy you could fix it up yourself. the power from these things are awesome. and if you can fit one of these into an e36, im sure as hell it would fit into a VL.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Cause I know a bloke that has put an LS1 into his E36 coupe. His from carline mufflers in sydney. Can't remember his power figure but it was something around 250rwkw. Stockish engine aswell.. Quote: Originally Posted by NZ EVLHSV Whats wrong with a supercharged 355 stroker in a VL? Nothings wrong with it, just I've heard its easier to get power out of an LS1. Putting the 5L motor in would straight out be the easiest route. But if you can shoehorn a LS1 into it with a largish cam and cleaned up heads on a dead stock bottom end you would be looking between 290rwkw and 330rwkw. Two cars i was involved with, cam only not touching the heads except for better valve springs went 284 and 286rwkw respectively. Thats masssive mumbo in a VL for **** all if you can do alot of it yourself.

So you mean the GTS has a bigger cam than the other models, but in comparison to other cams, it is relitively small? yeah it definately has its good points. For the VT 355 it looks like we'll have to get extractors made up to suit the HX, know anyone that would have them so we don't have to make them? Yeah, I've seen plenty around, but not sure if I want a supercharger. But if you were to, would you super or turbo?
