call me slow to realise this.. but hotrods generally consist of doing up older models... over time new models get added as they age, EH's, geminis, HQ/HX, monaros, toranas, commos e.t.c.. and there is the problem. Besides a commodore there is no other model that you could really want to play around with in 20years or so from now... i cant see customised vectras becoming a street machine. so looks like the old school models we got now are the only ones we'll be playing with.

There are alot of cars that can still be modified, but the problem is, majority of Aussie cars never came out with V8s and most people want one between the rails. I'd love to put a V8 in like an HR or EK, but there is just so much stuffing around to make one fit.
Yank cars on the other hand are alot easier to modify and as parts for our own cars get harder to find, it may be easier to build a yank car, as parts for them are readily available. There are heaps of mid 60s chevs for sale and pretty low prices, after my car now, i'll most probably do one.

i think a lot of people are realising this atm.
torana prices are through the roof these days cause soon they, and other cars of the era simply wont be available to buy anymore

not wrong, its hard to find one for under 7g or so, and thats a sedan, with rust... and a 173.

I dont agree.
My dad and his mates used to thrash toranas and HQs around because they were everywhere, and no one liked the shapes, they all likes the HKs.
Now theyre worth huge money and very modifiable.
Fast forward 15 more years and theres the VH VK VL / XD XE XF era, now theres probably more of those modified than any other era at the moment.
In another 10 years there will be all of the newer cars starting to get modified, just as the last era's did. They become older, cheaper, and worth doing up.
Ill always prefer the shape of the older cars, but you will see, newer cars will become the 'street machines' in the future, as they age and as older models become too expensive.
Who would have thought that when the bloody fugly gemini came out, people would ever turbo / V8 it? Well now astra's come factory turbo, XR6 turbo's etc. Theyre faster than any production car of the 70s.
They shall be modified.
PS: Only pre 1950's or so cars are classed as 'rods' or 'hotrods'.

i agree with two 89
imagine 20 years when VT VX VY VE etc will become cheaper
a VZ monaro in 20 years, it wont be CHEAP but cars like them will become the next hotrods

I overheard him saying that he would take 30k firm. Heard it with my own ears.
Also, someone told me it has a different motor, but that's unconfirmed.

wont ADR's and such that stop vls from being modified to much now, stop these cars from ever becoming hotrods?
The only reason older cars can get away with it these laws and regs werent created at the time these cars were.. therefore ur never gonna see a change in the current car culture, the old hotrods of today will be the same hotrods in 20 years time.. theres just gonna be **** all of em around.
btw Id pay $30k easily for CGMFLY

he wanted 25k years ago noone said it would go quicker then he ran the 9.2 and bumped the price up to 30k or more, now its run quicker and price of torana's said he wants 50k firm.. someone was interested and i asked him afew weeks ago.
i know he has plans of a new torana project, dont think they are using the same body (unless they changed there mind) so its possable that there is a new motor in there, if there is, it would be from rob's vl VL747 and he put a stock motor back in that and is using it as a daily now and rebuilding a new setup off chris old one.. but thats if like you say it has a motor.

Thats crap morgz.
ADR's dont stop the hundreds of 10 sec VLT's? or 10 second anything for that matter?
There are identical motors in late model cars today as there are in 1930 rods. HEAPS of mid 80s cars have blowers, nitrous, injection... EPA regs go out the window.

09-06-07, 18:52 GMT+10#12 I agree. As generations go on, things change. I know my dad and uncles used to toy around with chargers and eh's back in the day. Now people toy with wrx's skylines and what not. I my self on the under hand would never work on anything newer then a vl. What can i say but they dont make cars like they used to, big chrome bars, takes up 2 car spaces, monster v8...all a recepie for something nice

theres hardly hundreds, and most dont even see the roads anymore.
The emissions relate (in victoria) to the year the car was brought out, in say a 1966 holden all u need is a cat convertor if your running a newer unleaded fueled engine.
Cops are coming down hard on cars now, u wait and see how things go from here mate, it will only get worse and harder for modified cars to keep on the road. EPA regs dont go out the window, those people either dont drive their cars, or convert everything back to standard when they get busted or they pay the cash to how get their car signed off by an engineer having passed relevent emission testing.

09-06-07, 19:14 GMT+10#14 About 4 years ago there were 100, 10 second VL turbo's just in melbourne. I'd imagine that now there would be ALOT more.
Ever try driving a modified old car? You'll get pulled up more than a newer car. They stand out.
But i think we both have valid points.

09-06-07, 19:35 GMT+10#17 I wouldnt mind being an old fart, having a mint older car.. polish it up at home and go for a nice drive somewhere for lunch and a chat, to me thats what its all about. Love the racing at calder and heathcote, but I personally like just taking it easy and going for a cruise.
