my cars going in for a gas conversion in the next 2 weeks and ill be using a 440cfm gas research t/b with either a single or twin B2 converters in a draw through setup... its going on a turbo 202 will be running no more than 10psi and i think the comp is at around 7.5-8:1 i know its not a vl turbo but just after some advice just wondering what kind of problems (if any) people have encountered with the conversion or any tips of setup design or tuning tips... cheers

running a cooler? if so why are you going the draw through setup? it's only going to charge your cooler pipes with gas and when it backfires kaboom if not then thats ok you only run the risk of destroying your compressor wheel but apart from that i remember a 186 turbo a few years back. it was making 186rwkw and the only problem it had was that the spark was breaking down at about 5500rpm so i'd say upgrade your ignition system to something a little stronger than the std electronic system Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im only running draw through because of the manifold setup, i think i remember the 186 ur talking about, was in a yellow VK? he had modified the inlet manifold by whacking half a VK efi manifold ontop and facing the t/b to the drivers side. my setup will only be tempory as draw through, just need to get it on gas and register it first, then next thing on the list is new inlet manifold, cooler and ignition. i still duno wat im going to do with the inlet manifold, might get somone to chop off the plenum and put on a new one but unsure of costs for that, havnt looked into it lol more concerned bout geting it running right first is ther much risk of damaging the compressor running draw through gas?

not really i've seen it done on quite a few cars without any hassle you just need a good tuner so it doesn't backfire on you. i'd suggest running it on a vk efi manifold to it makes things a little easier. the car i saw it on was a LJ torana

cheers for the reply man i cant run the VK efi manifold coz ive got a 9 port head (red engine) and the exhaust manifold would hit it anyway ive thought about geting the 12 port head and fitting VK efi manifold and geting customer exhaust manifold but all that = $$$$ this is the setup im running, im just guna put the t/b on a pipe infront of the turbo for the time being then will eventualy go blow through with cooler and ****

Hey I had a 202 turbo on straight gas. It was a draw through but I think blow through is the way to go as you can run a cooler. Here's the setup:

sick man! yeha i wana go blow through eventualy but atm just gonaa go draw thru... how much boost were u running? wat kinda power did u get?

It was running about 10psi. Unsure on power as I sold it before I really had a chance to test it.

hey fellas how much that all set u back very keen as i have a 202

duno mate, i didnt do it all but depends how much power ur after to be honest its gonna cost u almost as much to rebuild an rb30 lol the manifolds on this setup wont alow for an intercooler to be used unless u change/mod the inlet manifold if u can get the manifolds and turbo n **** in a kit u could proly do it all for a few grand, but none of the stock engine will like it, so a rebuild is almost a must then youve got gearbox and dif etc... its much much cheaper to buy one already built Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Looking good mate! Have you had it on the dyno yet?

nah not yet, anyone know any places that will do a cheap power run? lol would be good to know wat its making before a tune and any further work is done

Mount the converter onto the inlet manifold with a nice bracket and use a small peice of vapor hose to connect to the throttle body. if you use an EFI manifold you can actually fit the converter inside the curve of the runners (looks real neat) and use a vac hose to connect boost to the top of the converter so when boost comes on it forces the diaphragm down and brings more gas into the throttle body (same as pushing down on the button on top of the converter). good luck with the car man. As he said mate. you better look at running some boost reference to the top of that convertor. GRA hates not having it on boosted applications. But looks good man, should work well once all ya bugs are sorted.

sorry guys, that system is old news and yeh i was extremely pissed off at the job the workshop had done. i had asked to mount the 2 converters i had provided with the t/b and asked to keep it all neat and professional. i have since removed all gas gear from the bay and is hidden under the front guard with lockoff in a safe position. i may as well have done the fukn install myself as all they did was install all the gas lines (i fitted the tank) and made the pipe up to fit the t/b infront of the turbo, they used the existing relays from my previous fuel system and modified them slightly, then gave the car to me untuned lol. apparently thats $1800 worth of work these days... the reason i didnt use the VK efi manifold is because i have a 9 port head, the VK efi manifold will only fit a 12 port head. anyway the 202 is old news, ive sold the turbo gear off it and will be running it n/a using a 4 barrel inlet manifold and an adapter to fit the t/b to as im building an RB30 for it and i will be taking the car to a workshop that knows their shit, which i will be researching over and over as im sick of being fucked around!

Happens too often. I don't know of many gas joints that do good custom work anymore. The biggest problem is they don't seem to listen to what their customers want and treat them like idiots. $1800!!!!! Please tell me thats not for labour only. You need to come have a chat to me mate. I will only do what YOU want and would never give it back to you unless its running right. How the hell can they not run boost refernce???? If you need help drop us a line or give us a ring at [email removed] PH 9887-1315 Website up and running soon I promise~!

thanx mate im spewin i didnt know bout you when i got my conversion done lol. but yeh all they supplied was the gas lines and lock off oh and the custom pipe for the t/b to fit the front of the turbo lol. no dyno tune, nothing. and that took them over 2 months, in the end i just wanted the car back coz enough was enough. they stored things on the car and scratched the paint, and stained the bootlid with some form of oil. anyway i now have to get it all basically redone with twin gas lines, twin outlet on the tank and install the twin converters as originally planned lol. ***n waste of time and money. but the cars getting resprayed atm so wont need that work done for at least 6 months. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
