Can't change the headunit in them I think. Pretty sure it's built into the whole dash. So unless you wanted to spend a fair amount of money making a custom dash, you'll have to stick with the factory unit. Someone confirm or deny what I've said?

true can't change head unit, but you can run subs, amps etc. through one of those special boxes, don't remember what they're called. You can pick them up from jb for like 300 or less i think

word CRUZ3N. Yeh he's rite. As for the quailty of the speakers, they r pretty gd. My mate has a VZ sv6, which i'm PRETTY sure has the standard commo sound system (coz it has no stacker or anything, so most likely isnt premium sound), but the system is actually quite gd, its a blaupunkt and it is probably on par with his old vs berlina to which he had a full aftermarket set-up minus subs. Just so u know for sure, can any1 verify that VY and VZ sv6 has same system?

My Mum drives as VY SS. Blaupunkt setup which i assume is the base model. The quality is good really, and the "gets louder as you go faster" thing is really handy. My only complaint is that even cranked all the way up, and at 100Ks an hour theres not a lot of volume in em.

You can buy a replacement unit if you want an aftermarket head unit in a VY. A mate of mine has had it done, I have no idea where he got it but I'm sure you could find one relatively easily. I'll ask him next time I see him and let you know.

you can change the deck in a vy. Mate has an entry level pioneer in his. You can massage 6.5in splits in the stock doors with an mdf spacer, and you can get 6x9's into the rear shelf. If you've got subs, you don't have to worry bout that.

hey mate, i got a vz (same ****) and i got a system going in, in 2 days. pioneer deck, 2 alpine type r's and an amp. stock speakers are good, not the best but theyre pretty decent. VY's have 6" in the front and also in the backdoors. Theres two 6x9 shaped cover things in the parcel shelf that you can remove if you wish to fit 6x9's in it easy. If you fit a sub dont worry about 6x9s just upgrade the speakers in the doors. I'll update how my system goes once its in and whether or not the speakers will need upgrading. If youre a member on streetcomms forums theres a tech article with pics on how &what you need to do to install a headunit in a vy in the car audio section aswell...

speakers are in the doors (all 4) only premium sound packages get speakers and a 6.5" sub in the parcel shelf. the factory head unit can be changed but you have to buy a storage pocket/sunglass holder to fill the space under where your new h/u will go. front speakers in ss's (not sure on lower models) are splits and also have tweeters on the dash in those little vents. the speed sensitive sound can be turned off in the dash options menu, and so can the distortion limiter, you will get a lot more sound out of it if you turn these off.

Of course you can change standard deck out of a VY Commodore! Not sure where you guys would have got the information which says you can't? My mate has an Alpine CDA-9855 deck installed in his VY Calais. The standard speakers are ok, but with the calais, there is 2 mini amps bolted into rear parcel shelf out of sight which only make marginal difference. If you are going to change deck, why wouldnt you go for speakers as well because the factory speakers will not do a decent aftermarket deck any justice at all. A good set of speakers are so cheap nowadays Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
