just wondering about the pro's and con's of each unit, thinking about upgrading the ignition system in my car. At the moment its a mild black 308 running stock ignition, thankyou in advance

I'm asuming you have the factory fitted big cap HEI? If so, there's no point in upgrading it on a mild 308. You could spend the money in other areas if you wat to make it go better Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

That pro comp stuff is crap, MSD and crane are pretty much on par with each other, I prefer MSD as is much nice to work with ( wirring up ) and have a wide variety of products Ive wired up a few Crane HI 6s for some people, all of them have been pleased with them

There isn't much more I can do to the engine, L34 Heads, ACL Flattops, 286 cam, edelbrock performer, 780cfm quaddy. The diff is running 4.11 gears and is minispooled, and the TH350 is shift kitted, I want to upgrade fuel and ignition at the same time if I can, then advance the timing hoping for 200rwkw EDIT: Im only on my L's aswell dont wont to go too crazy overboard

what sort of timming is the motor running atm, inital and total?? what sort of comp ratio you running. IMO standard HEI igntion system with a proper ignition graph set up is ample

Would never buy PRO COMP again , absolute rubbish , spent $80 + on pro comp e core coil setup BRAND NEW and it didnt even work !!! i tried returning it and they said that unfortunately they dont do returns , exchange or refund!!!!that says enough doesnt it!! spend the extra few dollars on the MSD , Crane or ICE for that piece of mind, i use the ICE 10mm ignition leads and rate them 100%.

I run the MSD6al in my vr 355 and it works well i guess, altho it needs a constant 13 volts at all times to work and with everything else running at full load somethimes it doesnt get that, so im in the process of fitting an ignition booster unit from 14-18 volts

KSRoofco i wouldnt really worry about a igntion booster with your set up. Remember Tuffer has EFI to run, injectors, fuel pumps, thermo fans etc thats why the igntion gets down on voltage

I bought a Pro Comp pc6al off Sydney Speed cos it boasted 3 times more sparks per crank rotation and held them longer etc etc... When I had trouble and Sydney Speed Supplies refused to do anything I opened it up myself. There is NO capacitors in there, and NO multi spark circuitry. The whole shebang is roughly equivalent to a HEI ignition as a Jacar hand soldered kit! The telling nail for them was the tacho I bought at the same time refused to work also. When they were telling me to try this resistor here and that wire there and useless crap, they told me that the tacho input wire should come from the negative terminal of the coil! When I questioned the tool on the phone he said that unlike an MSD6al the procomp unit wouldnt blow up a tacho with the negative coil wiring. This is in itself an admission from SSS themselves that they are selling dodyg $ h! t. Oh, and of course they refused to refund the tacho either! What UNS10 said PEOPLE, DON'T BUY PROCOMP OR ANYTHING FROM AT RACING OR SYDNEY SPEED SUPPLIES!

MSD took Pro comp to court awhile ago, not too sure on the outcome. I had a 6AL, but the MSD Digi 6 is the way to go, especially with an MSD HVC coil. Spark is ALOT stronger, has start retard feature, two step limiter, nitrous retard and has a safety feature which disables the engine. And the beauty about MSD is the huge range of products and technical advice.

The msd digital stuff, is the BIGGEST load of junk known to man, i had one and it never worked, and 5 others got sent back at the same time that didn't work, plus known many others that just randomnly **** themselves after a few months, and you can't fix them like the old stuff as they are resin filled(unrepairable). And try get a warranty after a few months of using them..nightmare!. Do a search on google with the mustang turbo guys etc, you will find them all saying the same thing..stay away. cheers darren
