Hey guys, It's been a little while since i've had the means to get any major work done on the old VL, but now i've got some cash incoming, i'm after a bit of advice. What can i get done for $4500? (that's the total budjet) performance wise. Here's some details. I don't know what turboing costs (to do it right) or supercharging or just some solid NA work on the engine itself. If i can't get something worthwhile, i'll just have the car sprayed black and throw on a grpA/HDT kit that i like the look of. My VL has just ticked 200,000k on the clock, it's NA and auto. No problems with it, and it sits on 18's and is lowered to around about 100mm off the deck. Currently it has extractors (just cheap ones) going into a 2.5 inch mendrel bent exaust. Like I said, i'd rather go the tried and tested route rather than going out on a limb, and it definitley has to be reliable. What's the go is $4500 enough to make it worthwhile?

Spend it on hookers and beer, at least that way the expenses end after the money has gone.....

sell your car, add that to the total saving then go out and buy a better VL Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Turbo manual conversion and a brake upgrade is what I would do.

Thanks guys. Selling the car isn't an option for me, i've put too much into it already with the body (rust dents etc), suspension and interior that i just wouldn't do it again. Also it would **** me to tears to pick up another car and have the ******* die on me or whatever. Want to keep it auto. Here are some options 1. Turbo conversion 2. New engine turbo conversion 3. Injected v8 & auto conversion Any of those possible with 4.5k (not doing any of the work myself that's just askin for trouble) If not i think i might just get the respray and kit. I'm not after a 1/4 mile monster of course, just something that's quick.

put 4k into the bank. Take 500 out and go have a massive piss up. **** spending big bucks on an N/A. Say you spray it for 2k. turbo it for 2k. Also VLT brake upgrade for 400. You will get back when you sell it probably 2k. and thats including the rest of your car. Take the missus out and get wasted.

Well the wife's agreed that 4.5k is for the car and whatever i wanna do with it. I don't intend to sell it, and i'm well aware after spending up big on previous cars that you don't even think about getting the money back. If i were to just up and buy another car, i would keep my current one and spend 4.5k on a second car which may be an option. WTB vl turbo for 4.5k.

if the car is MINT as is, buy a turbo motor (original) with manual for around 3500, spend the rest on an lsd and wiring, assuming you can do the actual dropping in yourself. Don't bother with an n/a bolt on conversion if you have 4500 to spend you can do much better than that, iwouldnt be kitting and painting the n/a vl either, sell it for 2 or 3k, and buy a vl turbo for 7,500 you could get a pretty nice one, that's the other option

Mate what I'd do is a turbo conversion, you wont need a new exhaust from cat back as 2.5" will do. and N/As with turbo boltons have proven to last if treated properly. I'd just throw on a stock turbo setup, front mount cooler and a vt brake upgrade. a 28spline diff and shiftkit the auto with a tranny cooler as well. That's how I'd spend it, as you said, you dont want a quarter monster.. with that setup you'd be safe to run 10psi and I'd imagine it would be pretty damn reliable providing the cars been treated right in the past and everything is done properly.

You clearly haven't learnt yet. sell the car, count your losses and get what you really want: a VLT you've spent too much on your N/A already, DON"T be silly enough to even consider spending part of $4500 on it !! there are nice genuine VLTs for sale for less than $7K that are reliable cars don't assume that spending money on your car will stop it from breaking down, parts still wear out, things break and mechanics don't do things properly no matter how much you pay them (even $4500) and never ever make the statement that you have X amount to spend: a workshop will spend it all and be rubbing their hands together and laughing at you as you drive it away
