I'm wanting to replace the clutch in my vl (mx7 box) and am looking at a exeedy heavy duty one. Later on down the track I would like to replace the mx7 with a r33 one because the mx7 isn't that smooth. What are my options? Can I get the smaller flywheel from a n/a vl and use it with a heavy duty r33 clutch in the mx7 or will the mx7 parts fit in a r33 box?

thats exactly what i did. mx7 box withan n/a flywheel and clutch. its a brass button. works fine and will fit for sure into an r33 box if i eventually get one. manual mx7 starter motors are hard to find too. if you use the n/a flywheel, this isn't a problem as they are easy to find. also have a large range of clutches to suit as skylines use the same size flywheel. hope this is right haha and helps you oh and some people have managed to fix the mx7 flywheel into the r33 box. some haven't had such luck. better of going with what i said as it will def fit in later on.
