It all depends on how fast you want to go? Do you want to spend it all on the motor? What gearbox does it have? I'd start with a good forged bottom end rebuilt, ported head and cam with an aftermarket ecu to begin with, then you are totally set up for any new goodies you want later down the track..

its stock auto but i dont wanna blow half my budget on a gb so i mite buy 2nd hand one thats already had work done... spose i pretty much just need shift kit high stall stronger bands and clutches... no need for manualised valve body yet etc... how much for a rebuilt bottom end fully forged? ohh and its got whiteline all through it Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

buy a quality 2nd hand gearbox then, or even convert to manual then you don't need to rebuild the box at all. Depends what you want really. Do you have 1/4 mile aspirations?

yeah, but with any headwork and cam worth having you are going to want an aftermarket ecu so it runs. So my advice would be gearbox build, lsd, forged bottom end and big top end, and an ecu. That should be about 10k. Leave your bottom end. Get an ECU, injectors, turbo, cam and tune. Get the auto done properly, yes they cost money. Hopefully the diff wont need any money spent on it. VLT_88 off here has gone 12.4 so far with NA bottom end (LOTS OF KAYS on it too) and been like that for 2 years now, money adds up, he has spent alot more than 10k on it, but if your motor is in good condition itll be able to run an 11 with the right additions. When people say 'its got a fully forged bottom end', it has forged pistons thats all, and you wont need them for what you are aiming for. Try to do as much of the work yourself, if you take it to a workshop the quality will be better but your money wont go half as far.

Youve just listed about 8 grand in parts. You doing all the work yourself? Tuning? The little things always cost more than the big things.

invest 5k of it for a house deposit. put 5k into freshening up your motor, maybe a bit larger turbo(hi flow) and enjoy cruising. ****in putting 10k into your car man its just not worth it. within a few years you will sell it neways and upgrade to something a whole lot better.

Im not saying spend some money on your car but what im trying to say is go half and half. From what you are saying you want a monster car, but dont want to wait or buy it all at once. Not a crash hot idea. I would put the money away for a bit longer. Save more and then just all at once go something like a 30/26 with a monster turbo. Seriously though have a nice car just dont blow it on **** you dont want and its not gonna be what you will want in the end and you will re-do it neways.

or put 10k in shares, wait for it to double then get a homeloan, have a house young, extend the loan and build a 9 sec vl turbo for no skin off your nose financially at all Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Fair enough. What im trying to say though is that its other things too, fuel lines, pumps, surge tanks, catch cans, gauges, axles, brakes, etc... I just did a fairly major rebuild on my car and i had plans written down, months of planning, did all the work myself, best prices on things i was purchasing etc and i doubled my budget just trying to stay below my budget. To be honest, i think you'll struggle to get what you're wanting for the 10k. Then once its all back on the road, you have a tough bottom end, but the exact same turbo etc as where you started and its not going to go any quicker. Personally, I'd be doing the performance upgrades to get the old girl moving, then once you're really serious go all out. Just my opinion. Once youve extended that loan for $40k over 30 years, you're paying alot more than ever. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
