Is nothing sacred? The NSW (specifically, Wollongong) Police have (after 11 years of sucessful, charitable and safe years of cruising on the same day beforehand) decided to end the biggest charity cruise on the NSW calander this year, the SUPERCRUISE. While not able to do it legally, they have resorted to threatening and down right dirty tactics (calling to make sure venues do not allow the supercruise access). The supercruise last year raised over $15,000 for charity and every year turns out the best cars in the state, without barely a wheelspin to be seen, let alone a burnout. The police in the past looked after the event, not giving defect notices unless people misbehaved, which no one did minus the usual group of unsavouries you can imagine.
I think this is disgusting, what are others thoughts? I know we are not meant to slander Police on this forum and i don't believe i am, keep this open please mods because this is a massive deal in NSW and totally unfair and ungrounded.
Full story is here: http://www.supercruise.com.au/ VERY disturbing.

I believe it is another case of the minority wrecking things for the majority.

by minority to you mean the police? Because maybe i'm blind but i've been on a supercruise a few times and never seen any burnouts or street racing etc, and i'm always in the thick of it!

Yeah, which minotity? How about the minority that's not going to recive up to $15,000 in charity because some bearucrat thinks he's making an executive decision in the 'interest' of the community and not for votes.
It's bull**** whatever way it's spun. I think the cruize would find a way around it, and I don't think the police would be stupid enough to stop it. Imagine if they did? be to easy to spin it as them not caring about the sick kids who would be reciving this much needed funding.
What are they scared of? that someone might spin the wheels a little? It's never happened before, so why would it start now?
Idiots.

lol jack then u havnt seen anything man. SPOOLR was a example, got his car impounded\towed for burnouts along with about 3 others throughout the day. And that was the first and only supercruise i went to, ill never go again as i find them the biggest waste of time, id rather donate the money and go to the creek n watch the big guns race..

Well even if it has happened before, I say this much.
If they do it, impound there cars, impose heavire penalitys. Whatever. If they don't do it on the cruize they'l do it anyway somewhere else. No stoping it, just let them earn the money for charity ffs.

not only was that event like 3 years ago, it was actually because Johnny let his mate drive his car and im assuming his mate had no idea what a powerful car was like to drive.

haha fat chance of that happening, more likely that the NSW police will shut down the cruise then a current affair will do an article saying that "These Hoons no longer even care about charity, look they didnt cruise this year!"

lol, good point. But if the charitys who normally recive the funding got behind it, could be a differnt story.
Maybe

make sure you guys read the story on the site (in first post), especially the part where the newspaper claims it is a "race" from sydney to wollongong amongst street racers

21-04-07, 16:45 GMT+10#10 I read it through, and it's absolute bull****. To bad it's just not news worthy material, otherwise the papers and ACA / TT would be all over it.
I still think it would go ahead, theres nothing they can really do to stop it (I think), but i'm sure they'll make it hell with fines / defects etc.

21-04-07, 16:48 GMT+10#11 yes i have read about this atmo mate an it is just ridiculous thats all i got to say, an they have cancelled it so cops will be out in full force to hand fines an defects as much as possibble money making scheme once again. there is no point really anymore having a nice car or a fast or any car if it has more than 4 cylinders as you get raped left right centre its just bull****.

21-04-07, 17:36 GMT+10#12 Maybe you should gather up a head of people to email into a current affair saying whats happened. With the article etc all put into it. Just an idea, but if u set up a basic templete for people to send in.. it could work (sorry if someone suggested this earlier etc, i just read the opening post as im in a hurry)
Its sad to see this happen, do they not realise in doing things like this it just makes us more pissed off etc, it doesnt help the situation what so ever

21-04-07, 17:40 GMT+10#13 Thats absolute bullsh!t
There's got to be more to it? Surely they cant just stop a cruise?? Unless the cops can prove it causes sh!t, surely them getting involved is coming close to harassment.
Not ****in happy!

21-04-07, 19:54 GMT+10#14 it is a pretty childish effort by the police officer involved. i wonder how he "bribed/threatened" oran park not to participate....

21-04-07, 21:14 GMT+10#16 Jack, you're obviously passionate about this but:
1. The organisers need to be careful re their hearsay claims of harassment
2. I suspect that local residents at Kingsgrove and Wollongong area (yes taxpayers too) are tired of their peace being disturbed by groups of noisy cars, especially on a public holiday
3. Can you lot get over mentioning Current Affair et al? You bag them for their treatment of car enthusiasts then suggest writing into them to get a story on
4. The comments re Oran Park are from one side only, hardly balanced
5. Trying to justify anything based on it 'raising money' for a charity is hardly reason to allow it. I'd challenge all the people who were going to still donate, to show that is what is important NOT what they get to do on the day with their cars. But that isn't going to happen, proving that the donation was actually 'conditional'
6. As per the CT rules no cop bagging replies, they simply show that those people think that they are above the law and that in fact warrants the 'cruise' being stopped by police

See, this is the bit I get the sh!ts at. If there were more cops, this sh!t would go ahead without an issue cause they'd have the manpower to patrol it, but who wants more cops cause half of em are f'd as it is!?!
