g'day iv got a vl wagon na on gas that is getting converted to turbo soon but i dont know how to set up the gas system for the turbo. atm there is a hose coming off the converter that goes to a gas ring between the afm and the intake piping. when i run the turbo should i place the gas ring before or after the turbo and where abouts exactly should i do it. its also going to run an intercooler eventualy if this changes anything. the motor is being built basicaly to normal turbo spec and will run a 2.5" exhaust. and help is appreciated. chears

If you wish to run standard to roughly 10 psi, a cheap and reliable way is to buy an impco 225 lpg carby, it will sit in your intake pipe like the one you have now. then to supply the lpg to it, i suggest using the convertor you have now, and buying another convertor probably an impco model l, and get your line t pieced at the engine bay to plumb the second convertor in. then simply join the second convertor to the 225 by buying a t piece from any lpg place. I have seen this setup work very well on a ford 250 turbo cross flow engine running from 10-15 psi, and with an o2 sensor plumbed into the exhaust it showed very good mixtures. If you need anymore help just post here or PM me.

chears 4 the reply. also what compression ratio should i be looking at running? chears

LPG can sustain higher compression, so generally you can get away with a tad more boost/ timing before it will start to ping etc. but if you are keeping everything pretty much stock then you will have no issues at all. only other thing to recommend is to upgrade the ignition if at all possible, or at a minimum new plugs and leads

i want 2 run it duel fuel aswell

honestly mate its not worth the effort having duel fuel as it will never run properly on either of them. you can still however run duel fuel with the setup i have described, but you will more then likely start to complicate things if you are trying to get any decent power out of it. with the availability of lpg at most servos its not really worth while holding onto the petrol side of things.

Gas research have some good information on their website on using a turbo with LPG. Im in the process of doing the same thing and am interested in seeing some pics of how far you've got, if you have any?

I got as far as getting my lpg tank mounted into the boot. I have 2 B2 convertors and 440cfm GRA throttle body. But I am not planning on running LPG anymore due to the fact that if you wish to get big power from it you need to start changing and modifying the tank to supply for gas flow, as a standard lpg tank i think can supply give or take 230 rwk. Also another reason for me not going lpg anymore is that here in canberra there is basically no one who can tune a performance boosted lpg setup, so i think in the long run it would become difficult for me to extract power from it reliably, and as my car wont be a daily fuel consumption isnt really an issue.

where abouts should i put the mixer?, b4 or after the turbo? i have had different people say different things so far...

defineately put it after the turbo, GRA or any other mixer are crap if they are suck through, if they are before the turbo, and you have a back fire you will have lpg all the way through the turbo, which as you could imagine wont be good, also intercooling would be out of the question, it would be a bomb waiting to go off.

ok so what iv figured im going to do is. first get ym car running on petrol cuz atm it wont start. i hav found an impco 225 off ebay for $40 and there is the converter i already have. i havnt decided what gas tank i will use, how legal is it to cut out the floor and have a decent sized tank in place of the wheel well and the petrol tank? im hunting around for a b2 converter atm. i want to move the converters over to the right hand side of the engin bay or atleast put the b2 over there and put a heat shield inbetween it and the turbo. make a custom cross over pipe with the impco 225 mounted in it probably above where the turbo is. would i be able to have a cooler between teh turbo and the converter? and most importantly, will it still be able to dose? how does that sound? any coments?

Yeah you are on the right track, in regards to putting a bigger tank in, you can buy these supports which looks like half a drum and you cut your boot out and place the lpg tank in this drum, which sits the tank half in teh boot, half below. If this was my car running what you plan on doing, i would set out the piping like so: Turbo----> Intercooler ----> to 225---> Throttle body, that way it will run properly and you will be able to dose! In regards to placing the converter near the exhaust i would try and keep away from this, due to many reasons. there is heaps of room under the plenum to place another convertor, and you will need a professional or someone with a good knowledge of LPG to instal another convertor. Also you will have to boost reference your convertors.

what do u mean by boost refference the convertors?

basically its a vaccum line generally coming off the intercooler piping before the cooler (in between the turbo and cooler) and it connects to the convertors, what it does is pressurise the convertor under boost and gives more gas.

ohk cool, yeah im prety sure i know where to hook it up. just waiting 4 the impco to arive now and hunting for a cooler
