Ive done a search and haven't really found what im after.
I'm doing a respray on my hilux in 2pac (single cab tray-back), it's factory white.
I'm looking for guidelines.
I need to know in steps exactly how to go about it
from what grade of sand paper to use
to how many coats of paint, primer? (brands?)
can i only hand sand or can i use an electric for some bit if so what bits
what size tip for primer and paint?
what preasure?
etc.
basically a run down on how to respray a car its factory colour in steps.
also if you use painters terms could you please explain them!
cheers matt

Yea its called an appretiship mate.
Takes about 4 years.
At the end of it you will now step by step how to paint a car and you will know all the terms.
Seriously mate if you search the forums you should find heaps of information.
Alot of it conflicting.
Cause there is no such thing as a true step by step in painting.
How i was taught to paint vary's from how someone else has been taught.
And different paint brands have differences. So what works for one brand of paint dosent for another.
Thats why when u paint a car , you follow manufactures instructions.
Its on the tin.
And you cant do a step by step on how to aply paint to a car.
I can simply say apply medium to wet coats.
But do you know what a medium to wet coat is?
What happens when you apply a medium to wet coat and discover uve applyed it to wet...? Runs ... too medium ... dry and peely.
Wjhat if your teqnique is uneven?
Dry peely bits next to runs.
You learn how to paint from experience.
Buy yourself a bomb.
Buy your self some acrylic.
And get some practice/experience.

as Sprint sez the reson there really is no step by step is cos every job is diffrent, so many diffrent paints and ratios to mix them at, and the 10 pages of info that may work for one person wont work for another, if you dont have 12 months painting experience, i wouldent sujest 2pac, i would go acrylic, as even if you paint it on dry, you can color sand it buff it and it will look not bad
