What did you want done? I dont do it, but i took my rocker cover to a place over in the Seven Hills Industrials yesterday and got it sandblasted for $20. The people are actually engine rebuilders so they arent able to do any too big like a car or anything, only little things mainly i guess...

I thought they bead blasted cars. Bit softer than sand blasting as it pits steel so it will pit panels worse.

lol never heard of bead blasting... there are different grades of sand in sandblasting.. it will pit the steel slitly but you rumb any of that off while you wetndry the car after sandblasting

yeah they bead blast and sand blast , although the high pressure sand blasting may damage the car. i was talking to a bloke who also does sand blasting and he told me he will use low pressure but will take abit longer then normal. i got a rough quote for a full sandblast for a vl around the $3000 mark. not sure if thats a rip or that sounds about right.

yeah be prepared to pay around the $3000 mark to sandblast the vl, i will try and find some contact details for you on where a family freind gets his cars sandblasted.

23-03-07, 11:51 GMT+10#11 You're right in the different pressures and different grades of garnet used. Good garnet is apparently becoming quite hard to find (they're ripped most of it out of the ground) and now the **** they use isnt of the same grade.
I got quoted $1200-$1400 CASH for a 2 door LC Torana inside and out, low pressure sand and that's a super thourough job. Hope that helps with yr pricing. Cant recommend anyone cause im in Melbourne.

23-03-07, 12:01 GMT+10#12 there is a mob down here (kembla grange) that i use and they do large stuf,a car would be nothing to them.
remember though, it takes a day to put all the blasting medium into your car and eternity to get it out

Too true. There's nothing worse than working on a recently sandblasted car. I once spent nearly a day getting sand out of the quarters of an XY Panel van, and even then I had to come back and re-do it. The **** gets everywhere!
What primer do you use on the bare metal? Red/Brown or that Black Pro-tech ****?

My Old man's HQ Coupe was sandblasted 10 Years ago. Still more sand falls out everytime we open the boot.
Im not too familiar with sandblasting (or any body work really), what are the major advantages over doing it the old fassioned way?

23-03-07, 14:17 GMT+10#16 soda blasting wont warp or erode the panels and it dilutes with water leaving no grit, sand etc behind and still leaves the original metal etch on the car so it doesnt rust

If you sand blast a car and prime it directly after with a good quality red/brown or black etch, seal all panels appropriately, the car will out-live you.
I saw a '56 Austin after it'd been sandblasted and it was completely rust free excluding about 5 ten cent piece holes in the front floor. Although the sand blaster said it had about 4 inches of body deadener all round it lol.
And to whoever asked why it was better, sandblasting (done correctly) leaves an even bare metal finish without the heat of a disc-er warping the panel. It strips everything to bare metal and (as previously said) leaves the metal in its original etched state. Grinding doesnt do this, and subsequently doesnt always remove rust.
