im looking to get:
front 6" splits
rear 6" speakers for the door
nice deck with MAD visual and audio capabilites
atleast a 12" sub thatl make the VT ROCK!..
and perhaps one 4-channel amp for the woofers
and a 2-channel amp for the sub..
Anyone wanna gimme some prices or give their opinion. thanks.?

That isn't much of a budget considering a decent head unit will be $400+. Your best bet is to get stuff that is 2nd hand. Sometimes autobarn have catalogs with systems which are around $800-$1500

if you think strathfield can give you a good sound then theres something wrong, go to a proper car audio place, etc gary's or bundoora street sound and vision for THE GOOD STUFF!

My opinion is this - for $1000 you're simply not going to get much thats even half decent.
For example -"nice deck with MAD visual and audio capabilites" that alone is the best part of a grand. Add in some decent speakers - not crap - and you're budget has quickly gone out the window.
As already stated you could get one of those cheap ass packages for around what you want to pay but thats it. Maybe keep saving and do the job once and do it right.

I spent about that in my woo, Sony CD, 2 x 12" Sansui Subs + box, AMA 4 channel amp, 5" fusions in the front, Cadence 2 channel.
enough to make me deaf when cranked up.

Back in the old days you needed big $ to get anything decent. But these days you can get a Sony MP3 for about $200, then some ok 6" front splits, a 4 channel amp and either 1 or 2 average 12s and your pumping
I spent $6k on all Boston and PG stuff a few years ago and just ripped it all out. I have no sounds at all now and my car handles heaps better... best thing I ever did to my car

No such thing as a nice system from Strathfield. THere's cheap, but not quality. Especially when talking about car ausio products. My head unit Cost me the better part of your budget.
I'm not saying you should spend the same, but what is the point og spending money on crap equipment? Better buying some good speakers and no subs. Sub's do not increase sex

Sounds like a good idea to me man, might also help to go around some decent stereo places, have a look at whats out there, most importantly listen to it and see what sort of money gets you what. Do you're homework dude and it will pay off whn the time comes to buy stuff.

09-03-07, 22:42 GMT+10#18 guys sorry to hijack the thread, but i'm also in the market for a system. At the moment i'v got the stock setup (VX lumina, cd player and whatever else they include). Now i'm after a real basic setup; headunit, splits, and a single sub. My question is, what should i look for? what else will i need for the set-up should i leave any of the current stuff in? and most importantly how much is this gonna cost me?
cheers in advance
