ok, ive got a welded diff in my daily vl and tonight after a bit of a skid its singling really really well, and nothings happening on the other side. It was perfectly drivable to get home, except for all the smoke haha. But what i was wondering was, the axle on the side that isnt spinning is snapped im guessing, so how do u go about getting the half that connects to the diff centre out?

well it depends if you welded the sun gears or did you weld the axle into the sun gears? if you welded the axle into the sun gears good luck, might be easier to buy another diff. If you only welded the gears then remove the axle like you normally would.

naa we took the diff centre out, split it open and welded the inside. i just dont get, if the axle is snapped in half, how u get the half thats connected to the diff out?, wouldnt it be stuck somewhere inside the diff housing?

remove the axle as per normal, once you have removed the broken half, remove the other axle (the good side) place a long extension bar through, and tap the other half of the axle out, be sure your hitting the end of the axle not the side gears, once you have dislodge the second piece of your axle get a magnet to remove it. Be sure to get all the metal splinters out aswell. If you didnt live so far away i would do it for you.
