G'day guys, I have a VK 5Lt, and I have a VL manual rack I wish to fit. Obviously I can't fit it to the VK K-frame. So my question is; What model K-frames can I fit into the VK? I've been told that VL and VN will fit. But are there any other models that will interchange? Cheers.

Mate, when we did the injected 5ltr conversion into my cousins VL we used a 308 K-Frame from a VC. Bolted in with no real hassle, found one bolt hole a little tight so we put the bolts in and just did them all up gradually, not a problem Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

But VB-VK steering racks have the mounting bolts much closer than VL and later. VL are at least an inch wider. Cheers. P.S> I suspect that you found 1 bolt tight because you fitted power steering to a manual steer K-frame. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

mate, all I know is it bolted in, and from what people say vb-k is different from vl-s so im assuming it wont have been a vl-s frame that we pulled off of the vc.

pretty sure the vl rack will only go with the vl k frame, from wat i've been told due to the bolt holes for the rack! just curious as to y u wana fit this rack anyways?? i no they are more compact, but wat size pipes are u gunna run if thats ur clearence concern?? i was told to do the same change over as u in my vh, but then difillipo said that there 4 into 1 pipes will fit now worries with the std vh rack and k frame.. which they do..

The VL manual racks have improved steering characteristics to the earlier racks. Although street reged, my VK isn't really a street car. It has been built for track days and targa type events. All the suspension(links, shocks, springs, bars, etc) is fully adjustable. So on the track the difference between the racks is very noticeable.

yeah no worries mate, probably would be better for that kind of driving.. but wouldnt power steerin be better?? but back to ur main question.. the vl k frame will bolt up and i'm guessing the vn and vp would be fairly similair!! considering vb-vp all the suspension is pretty much the same..

Power steering is great in the KFC drive through. But I've built this car with no air con, no power steer, etc. I've gone the whole minimalist trip. The less that can suck off power, or fail, the better. Due to the increase in caster and camber, the steering will be heavier. But not so much to warrant using power. I have been told that VP K-frames are different from the VN ones. Can anyone confirm this.

Dont want to be a steal your thread but what model manual racks can i put in my VH K-frame? Will it have more clearance for bigger pipes with the manual rack? I'm used to throwing a belt at Easternats and driving it around with no power steering, now thats heavy!

I'm used to throwing a belt at Easternats and driving it around with no power steering, now thats heavy! All VB-early VK manual racks will go into a VH K-frame and give more clearance(not as much as a VL manual rack though). The manual and power K-frames are slightly different. I'm not sure which way it is. I think you can put a manual in a power K-frame , but power in a manual K-frame makes the steering feel tight. Eitherway, I'm glad someone can relate to my anti power steering policy. Cheers.

yeah i understand the no power steering bit.. i dont have any of that **** either.. makes the engine bay look untidy!! but just thought it would have been abit easier with the targa type events.. good luck with it all mate!
