tried searching but difficult to search for...
the car will start and run ok only with key in start position. turn key off start position and she dies.
Does anyone have a list of what pins need to see 12v at the ecu?
(all 7 on the power plug have 12v)
maybe once the car runs, there is 12v sent back to ecu from a relay?
now this is in a torana, so the loom has been chopped up to suit and bits and pieces missing (everything off plenum is in the bin, alternator not plugged in yet, oxy sensor not plugged in yet.)

sounds like for some reason the ON position maybe cactus on the barrel. see if you can get hold of a wiring diagram and see whats meant to have what

So this is a torana with an RB30 conversion? still using the torana barrel & switch? sounds like switch adjustment, switch wired incorrectly or shagged switch.

He's saying it will only run with the key in the start position, instead of in the ON position like normal.

hmm i know what he means but i have no idea how to fix it maybe you should pull the barrell out and have a look at it might be rooted
stages
1. unlocks the steering wheel *powersteering duh!*
2. fuel pump and if its coil setup then the coil starts to glow and alternator gets set and ready to run
3. engine turns over and presumably starts then when you take your hand off the ignition it springs back one stage and this is when i presume his car stops running.....am i right there?

yeah you were right.
what i found was that the 2 12v supplies for start and on that feed the coil etc, had no overlap when switching from start back to on. i guess that isnt important on a carby vehicle, but i think that was causing the problem. i just soldered a bridge across the terminals on the switch and everything is happy.

i had this problem
see if your computer is turning on when you turn your key to acceseries if not theres a brown wire that goes to your ecu that runs to a relay to your fuse box bridge that relay and it'll start

24-02-07, 06:12 GMT+10#11 I had this problem when putting the 5ltr in my calais. it turned out to be the ignition wire I thought was the correct one... well, was incorrect. also had some problems with the neutral safety switch. If your running an auto behind it with the switch I strongly suggest you bypass it all to try get it running correctly first.
Dont know the wiring on a torana but in commodores and Im pretty sure that colours may carry over (seen it before on hq's etc) that The ignition wire I thought was correct was yellow but then It worked using the pink wire...wierd.

24-02-07, 11:00 GMT+10#12 same prob installing a inj 5ltr in my old i tonner but in reverse.would only start to fire in the on position.obviously no power in the start postion.
just watch your on postion 12v(pink also from memory on a hz)it is a resitorized wire as it doesnt actual run 12 volts once it has current going through it.thats why there is no ballist resistor. This may/may not help ya.
