gen3 will not fit straight in on 5ltr mounts. yer its been done, CRS (castlemaine rod shop) sell kits to fit a gen3 into a vk, BUT, from all the people that have done a gen3 into vk swap they had to modify the kit alot...

It's been done in other early commodores, VC, VH. It can be done, from memory on what I've heard, the tranny tunnel needs to be slightly massaged out for the T56 box. The engine fits. As stated, CRS sell kits, but don't expect anything to actually fit. My mate done a gen3 into a VR, said he had to modify every single peice of the kit in some way. Was gonna try take legal action (false advertising, selling something as a kit when not one peice fits) but don't think he bothered. It's POSSIBLE, now more of these conversions have been done that their kits may now be better (although unlikely in my opinion). I think you'd be better off getting custom mounts made for your engine, and custom headers/brackets etc. done. That way they fit, and you can get them how you want them, instead of buying a kit, and having to change it all anyway.

like pishk i recommend not using the CRS kit, take it to a shop to get engine and gearbox mounts made, thats the easiest way to get it done.

Give dynomotive a call and see what they did to fit one to a VB.

I know if you want to put a 350 chev in early commodores you have to change the steering box etc

I reckon it would more worth it to stroke a 304 or 308 to 355 or 383, wouldnt yous agree..?

how would this sort of mod go with engineering?? Would it need an engineers cert??? Love to see how early commodores would go with this sort of conversion.

All conversions need to be engineered where an engine is transplanted into a vehicle that the car was not released with or had as an option.

hahha nar wouldnt need to stroke the gen3, good cam, springs, decent mafless tune, otrcai and you would be seeing very close to 300rwkw. Friend of mine has pulled 290.4 at the rears with a pretty small cam. as for it going into a vk, dont see why not, a guy in town is currently putting one into his VH : Come to the dark side, join us LS1 boys.... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

A mate of mine was putting an LS1 into a VK (ex cop car). Last I heard it had cost him a heap and was still going on it. Not sure if it did end up seeing the road - however, yes, it is possible and there are some cars out there. I will see if I can dig up some pics or more info on it. Found a pic from 2003. and the specs - 225 LS1 engine (head and cam package later on) remapped PCM and BCM link removed from it Direct Clutch 4200 lbs 6 button brass clutch T56 LS1 6 speed gearbox 9 inch with 4.11 gearing. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

^^ i remember him... unfortunately it would of cost him a fortune as he woulda been one of the first to be doing it at the time, now there's more options and surely if anyones smart for a business venture there will be more kits coming out
