I have the Getrag from VT S1 in my 304 injected VL and it has been really good so far. They are meant to be a lot stronger than the T5 I had the linkages shortened in the shifter as they are a pretty sloppy throw standard. I also have a light aluminium flywheel, not sure what brand though, and custom 6 puck clutch rated for 600hp made by Auto Clutch in Auckland NZ Not sure if this is much help to you, but I was in the same position a year ago and chose a brand new Getrag over a rebuilt T5 Alex

getrag 4 sure, t5's are useless if ur gonna be putting some power behind the car. i know this first hand as i ****ed my mates box in his vn which was a t5.

i have a getrag behind my 355. puts out 235rwkw and it handles it fine

personally i would save the money and get a t-56 as the getrag is such a sloppy gearbox to drive and it is very expensive to replace the clutch in them as you have to replace the flywheel and im pretty sure they are a dual mass

do you know how much the t56 gearbox could set me back? and would they fit straight on the backs of 304s or do i have to change the bellhousing? thanks guys

ud need around 2-2500. there was a completes set-up to suit vn going for 2500 on vic street scene. and yes you need to change bell housing

My T5 did the job, running a little under 200RWKW, and giving it a hiding! lol

i had an extreme in my vl (not the same boxes i know) gave that clutch hell and it never slipped. use to put it in 2nd from standing start and ride the **** out of it just to get it sounding like a massive stall lol not the smartest thing i know but i had the clutch in there for a year and it never slipped.

Is there much aftermarket support for the getrag 5 speed to stengthen it, like straight cut gears and stuff?

If anyone wants to "throw out" a T5, let me know first. I'd love to convert my calais, it's staying carby and will stay pretty much stock when it's time to rebuild, so won't hurt a T5 if I put one behind it.

V8 Getrag's don't have a dual mass flywheel. Don't know about the V6 box though

getrags are a strong 'box, there are many 500HP toyota supras running these getrag boxs and they're holding up fine Quote: Originally Posted by johny_e Is there much aftermarket support for the getrag 5 speed to stengthen it, like straight cut gears and stuff? yea, there are dog box kits for the V160 getrag box and other models Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
