Before I go and possibly break something, can someone tell me whether the plastic surround around the gearstick is removable? It looks like it is - Are these fastened by clips and is there a 'trick' to punching it out from the centre console?

yes it is removable, take off the rubber boot around the stick, and grab the front of the square hole where the stik is and pull up and towards the back of the car you sorta hav to stretch it back a bit. oh and dont break the tab at the front of the surround

Yep - Its been mounted for over 2 years now but Alberts over here really stuffed things up on the entire install and now I'm re-assessing my entire setup. Messy wiring, shoddy workmanship, bad service, missed completion/delivery timeframes by 2 months! about 7K later and total inconvenience to me - no apologies nor responsibility taken either which really pissed me - Time to go to people who know what they are doing - Audioart has got a good name. The iPod is connected directly to the head unit - I've had a Denison linkup which sorta works sometimes! But it was the only thing available at the time. Now Kenwood has their own iPod linkup so the head unit should be able to control everything from now on rather than me play with the iPod. Its the top of the line Kenwood deck not available here in Oz. Am getting my entire set up re-aligned and redone as well by Audioart. Alberts screwed that up as well and if I had a garden gnome handy the day finally they said it was 'finished'.....(refer Fawlty Towers episode)
