hey everyone, just thought ide start a thread on my project car so everyone can see my cars progress this is my '86 Vl Berlina i purchaced way back in may for $300, i bought it off a trusted mechanic up the road from work, i was a bit hesitant at first as i was looking for vr-vs as first car but i soon changed my mind when i saw the vls potential. the good stuff: the bloke who sold it to me had spent 3 grand plus on the motor only including headwork, new radiator, new battery, new filters and oils, replacing hoses, ect. the bad stuff: like many neglected vls, this berlina had rust in the normal spots around front and rear windscreen, on the boot floor and in the spare wheel well, around the boot lip where rubber goes and on the passenger rear pillar the ugly stuff: now apart from the rust making the car ugly, the car had ugly faded while chalky paint with half peeled off red pinstriping up the sides, the uglyiest red faded to pink interior, the car had rusty steely's on it and the bumpers were either brand new unpainted grey or original faded silver ok, heres the pics (these were taken AFTER i took the bumpers, lights, front and rear windscreens, some interior and rusted out bootlid off it) ok it only took me a few days before the rust repairs started, first thing i did was around the windscreen after a couple of weeks moving it in and out of the workshop i started noticing it wouldnt suck the fuel up very well and it was coughing and spluttering, so i pulled a fuel line off in engine bay and to my horror it was pumping out rusty coloured fuel constantly and did not clear up, so out came the fuel tank i found out the problem was that the fuel filter was fcuked and didnt filter at all, and the fuel lines inside the tank from the pump had become brittle and dissolved into the tank, oops! also the brown colouring was because it had 2 year old fuel in it, double oops! ok, i fixed that little dilemma and did a few more rear end rust repairs below taillights and fixed all the rust inside the boot on the floor and spare wheel well before i put the tank back in i thought it might be a good idea to change injectors and fuel lines so i did that, put new ignition leads on, sand blasted inside of intake manifold (off the motor ), polished throttle body and butterfly and other stuff i forget then the tank went back in and motor back together but it didnt fire up because i hadnt put enough fuel in it haha it took me a week 2 realize why it wouldnt start ok back 2 the body repairs, it was sittin around for a bit while we had heaps of jobs 2 do at work but i got a chance 2 strip it down 2 bare shell and repair and prime the doors and guards shaving passenger door lock Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
