Hey fellas,
Now im not very skilled in the art of car audio, or wiring at all for that matter.. I just know some of the basics but still this knowledge hasnt let me find out the source of this problem im having at the moment.. Im on the verge of taking my car to JB installations and lettin them sort the sh!t out but i thought id post up here and try and get some insight and fix it myself..
Sub and deck keep shorting out.. Decks volume wont go past volume 35 or more without turning itself off and when its playing the light of the face flickers. Its even worse with the sub going (ive taken the fuse out) and its driving me up the wall.. Now heres the funnier part.. When the sub is installed if i do just about anything ie: lock my doors, turn my lights on or even just have accesorys on the sub will go nuts.. took the dash off yesterday and checked the red power lead all the way through as well as the blue leads that connect the sub to the deck.. not touching n e thing. :S
So if anyone with REAL & GENUINE knowledge can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.. Just post up in this thread, dont worry about pming me.. Thanks in advance guys and hopefully i can sort this out sooner than later..
Take care
Shaun

I had same problem with my deck... So i got 8gauge wire and ran the constant power to the battery and the earth (black) to the battery....
4 gauge wire from the positive terminal on the amp to the battery for the power and 2 black 8 gauge wires earthing in two different spots in the boot... Now Theres not even a tiny bit of flickering and the sound is way more clear.. all i can notice is my volatge meter drop with the bass wen im cranking the stereo..

definitely sounds like earthing issues

<--- works part time as an auto sparky
like mitzi said You can:
Run a nice fat power cable to the deck and run a separate nice fat power cable to the amp (both fused of course).
Earth the deck to chassis behind the dash (anything solid) but polish the paint off first.
Same with the amp, earth it to the nearest bit of solid metal (Not the parcel shelf theyre a ****ty earth) and make sure the accessory wire to the sub is away from all the speaker wiring.
Then find the point under the bonnet where your battery earths to the car, take it off, polish the hell outta it and put it back on.
this will prevent any future problems power-wise but your issue is probably not with the power side of things. . .
i'm guessing one or both of your RCA cables is earthed out, so when you crank the volume it pulses inside the deck and turns off and when u use your central locking etc. it backfeeds to the sub.
i recommend buying and running a new set of RCA cables but when u run them put them in plastic split tubing to make sure sure theyre not squashed or damaged or touching anything in the car...
if it still does it, pm me
