hey, i just finished painting my dash today in cream (SATIN BUCKSIN) with septone arcylic paint and it came out a treat i used 8 cans 3 coats per part septone paint is very very easy to work with especially if you have had prevz experinces with a spray can. steps to how to spray your dash,
WHAT YOU WILL NEED.
satnly knife to cut around the musking tape
musking tape to musk up the places you dont want to spray
news papers to musk up
Septone arcrylic paint can be purchased form supercheap auto 15 bux a can.
tools to take of the dash.
Morning fresh or any other washing product
Step 1. Take off the dash slowy try to avoid breaking the plastics theres a forum on how to take the dash out it is very easy
Step 2. For prep work clean all the dash components hot warm soapy water (morning-fresh) and leave it to dry after that go over with a dry cloth maken sure there is no water visible.
Step 3. musk up all the black parts of the dash (unless you want to have it all the colour you desire.
Step 4. Start to spray maken sure there is no wind or do it in a shed and make sure u allways clean the nozzle so u dont get big splatters of paint everwere.
Step 5. Make sure the dash ahs atleast 1 day to dry 24 hours in direct sunlight if possible.
Step 6. if you are a fussy like me; before putting the dash on clean the air-con plastics and the dash and all those other bits that get covered from the dash it self.
Step 7. Screw you new interior back.
ENJOY... will have pics up soon

My useful tip for this is to put the windscreen vents halfway in the dash pad then push them all the way in once the das in in otherwise you won't be able to get them in. This is because the dash is dropped in whole prior to the windscreen being installed in the factory.
I used 4 cans to do my dash, centre console, door handles, door seals, and jesus handles. I did 3 coats on everything except the console and dashpad which copped 4 coats each.
And its masking tape mate. Unless your wiping deer piss all over your dash LOL!!!

dunno if this helps or not but i cleaned mine then used some plastic adhesion primer or something, i dunno some primer for plastic and vinyl. Not sure if u relly need this but i used it and did 2-3 coats on everything and mines holding up fine even sitting out in the sun a bit. My 2 cents anyway, take it or leave it

Thats only required if your using actual paint. Vinyl/Plastic dye actually penetrates the dash material rather than simply coating it.

14-03-07, 13:40 GMT+10#12 Last time I did my car I did 2-3 cans. This time around I used alot more, 5+
It's definately worth it, don't want it coming off, and the thicker it is the harder it is too scratch. That's my guessing.

14-03-07, 17:19 GMT+10#13 i did my dash and interior not too long ago in my VH turned out really well.... but i must say I used about 8 odd cans to do the entire interior
(dash / 4 arm rests / glove box inside & out / centre console / kick panels / seat belt holders / sun visors / grab handles / sun visor holders) so basically all the interior
this is what it turned out like ( I sprayed it on pretty thin to start with then got thicker and only did a few coats)
I don't know how you could do it with only 3 cans!!!
only started to put the dash in atm but you can see the difference

21-04-07, 20:42 GMT+10#16 believe it or not the colour used was from VHT called Charcoal Grey (SP954).... but looks a tad bluish which should match my VQ statesman seats that I am planning on putting in the VH but then again it may have turned out that way because of the brown under colour.... i dunno

So is this actually a paint, or a dye? Real question there would be, can you paint that blue bit of the steering column to match?

I will get round to painting that one day I promise!! Kind of gives away the fact that the car originally had the blue interior.
It's a dye, not a paint.

21-04-07, 23:12 GMT+10#20 Yeah ok, was hoping it was a paint really. Got a ****load of overspray on the current dash. Think it'll need to be changed anyway...
