depending on year they're both pretty much the same, if you want stroker go the vt block as you dont have to clearance it for the 355 crank... 304s are newer and can use unleaded safely, did you want injection or carby?
the vl 304 are good blocks as they had a better quality of metal in them they where high in nickel they are a stronger block but i not sure weather the vt blocks where the same .may be some one may have that info here???
vt block is the best holden block.... has the thickest webbing, will take a 3.48" stroke no worries, raised lifter bores good if u wanna run a roller cam plus it has the roller oil pump gear thing at the front..

best holden, it honestly doesn't hold a candle to a LS1+ block...

I dont think you can call an LS1 block a Holden block. VT S1 was the last of the Holden blocks
all chev.
the only holden'ish part i think would be the sump which they had to custom make to fit into our commodores kframes

u gonna do a transplant or buying one with it already in?? either way i think youll have to use a 304 for legality reasons, the vls came with 304s anyway. no disadvantage, no way on this planet you will ever notice the 4 cubic inch difference if you're gonna do the conversion or has a little bit of extra cash to spend, go the efi conversion you will never look back.

ahh correct me if im wrong but the vl came out with a 308 (carby) engine...
308 are the old engines, Vl and older. 304 are the newer injected engines..

The VL had a 304. The reason for this was so that the car could race at a lower weight under Group A rules.
