hi ppls
what ive got is a vl calais 5ltr
what i want to put in is a vr/vs factory 5.7(storker)with 6 speed into it
has anyone on here done that if so what problems did you have with it
anything you can tell me would be helpfull thanx guys
should be pretty straight forward conversion, maybe change the sump and K frame. Im sure Castlemagne Rod Shop supplys conversion kits for these.
or, you could use the ten grand you were going to spend on the conversion and spend that on your existing combo.
right now mate the car has no motor in it so cant do that lol
and was told its almost the same block(black) so would go right in
but im not to sure i was only told that
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
you can bolt the motor pretty much straight in, obviously you will have to run the wiring harness and get the computer modified to remove the theft part so u can run it, not sure what will have to be done with the 6 speed gearbox as i havnt heard many people putting a six speed in an early model commodore, probly have to modify the shifter location so it will fit
all you need wil be a vl-vn v8 k-frame they bolt straight up with no hastles, not to sure about the standard gearbox mount as i had to modify the standard auto one but it still very easy to do that... make sure you get the front half of the tail shaft to so it can be re joined with a standard vl back half...um pretty sure that about it oh yeah get a efi vl 6 fuel tank or vn v8 one probaly the v8 one is better as it can handle more power than the 6 one.. make sure you get a 6 cylinder vl as the battery is already in on the right side so as the power stearing hoses will reach unless you go manual rac!!! engine is very easy to wire up all you need to do is power a few wires up and it will start first flick...will find out what colours have to be powered up and let you know..

thanx mate the good thing is that it already has the v8 k-frame cos it was a factory 5ltr and battery is already in the boot so some of the work is done

You might have to move the battery to the boot so the airbox can go on that side of the engine bay,the only other hassle will be the gearbox crossmember, maybe try a VS ute one if it ever had the six speed fitted.
there is just as many hassels with putting a injected v8 into a 6 cyl vl then a v8 vl. im doing the 6 cyl way, yeh the 6 cyl does have its adventages like fuel tank, return fuel lines, battery on drivers side, etc but it has a few disadvantages like gearbox tunnel needs a floggin to fit t700, v8 k-frame, 1 inch master cylinder up grade + caliper up grade and 28 spline diff. can anyone tell me approx how much power the 25 spline diff can handle safely before it lets go. cheers!!!!
The motor will bolt into the VL no dramas as yours is a V8 anyway , the VL 5ltr ( carby) is still wired to run EFI pumps as the loom and relays are already their , just untape the plugs at the rear of the fuel tank . BTW you will have to change the tank anyway to an EFI one and it will need new fuel line ( also return) .Biggest prob will be getting the six speed to fit , they are a huge gearbox and the vb-vl tunnel isnt that big but the did make it fit the Vn so anythings possible.
adam
do u guys always seem to wanna run the t700 for the overdrive or is there another reason??? otherwise surely a t350 or a little trimatic which sucks less power would be easier to fit?? or even a ford c3-4, im sure u can get adaptors.
your project sounds like a good one m8
I know of one 6 speed box its in a VK (HSVKGOLD) his got a 6 speed in his
you should have a talk to him he mite be of some help?
Also your extractors could give you some dramas on the drivers side around the powersteering rack if you havent got any yet use paceys 5700s they will suite the 5.7 and for fuel pumps use VL turbo internal and external they will do the job just fine cheers good luck with it
Yeah they wil fit, but i'm pretty sure pacemaker makes EFI ones for VL's - may as well get them straight away.
As said by everyone else, should be pretty straight forward, just the tunnel will give you drama's. Worth it though - not many VB-VL's getting around with 6speeds in em.
If its too hard a nice T5G or something is an easy option.

yeah pacemaker make the efi ones but dont get the real big diameter pipes as you will loose power just get standard size ones and they love it i have some on my car and they are excellent..

well ive seen a few vl in S/C mag with the 6speeds in them well 4 i can think of anyway and i just would like to have it stronger then the t5 or t5g(walky) boxs ive been told
Those T56's in the GTS HSV's are strong... I have been driving mine around a bit, and its awesome.. not notchy at all and really goes in without a worry, one of the few boxes even I manage not to stuff up a shift when using.
