I've got a single 044 in my car, which makes a 'noise' when on (ie a dull buzz) which most seem to make. However in this hot weather lately, even with 1/2 a tank of petrol it is making a very high pitched buzzing noise (ie I can hear it with the windows up and over the exhaust!). Is this a sign of something in the fuel system not doing its job and putting pressure on the pump? or something like a buggered in tank fuel pump. Cheers.

On my previous vl, the same happened to me occassionally. It used to always make some noise, but hot day and plenty of fuel it would be very loud. As long as its mounted properly with rubber mount etc, i wouldnt worry about it. Just keep an eye on things and see how it goes on different days. Mine would vary the noise level depending on hot weather or not.

I've always known them to be quite loud. Just something you expect from a big fuel pump...

yeah platinum - mine is massively loud, and i run a surge tank in the boot. the pump itself is in the factory location, and it varies in pitch randomly sometimes. i haven't found any pattern to its noise generation yet, but it could be fuel temperature related. i know my surge tank gets reasonably warm after a long drive.

mine isn't that loud till i get under half a tank. I'm wondering if a walbro intank pump would fix it?

hey if the 044 pump gets noisy under half a tank then, is it safe to drive say if u got a quarter of a tank of fuel with an o44 pump?

Mine is pretty loud in my R31 fuel tank, but is louder from outside, my brothers is mounted under his soarer and is insanely loud from inside.

A way to quiten them down is to mount them properly. If the brackets its mounted to aren't insulated with rubber the vibrations from the pump will be transmitted into the car. Stock vl pump bracket has rubber to insulate it but the bosch pump is fatter so you have to remove the rubber to get it to fit.

there normally loud, especially when u dont have a parcel tray. mine changes pitch when the tank is 1/2 empty, i also have a surge tank. wrap a stubby holder around it and put it back in the bracket, silences it up a bit but will probably get hot
