For starters the VK didn't come out with a 253 so it has been downgraded, personally I hate them, only reason being my dad bragged about his one and my sisters old corolla was faster, I am serious too.

Most people put in 253's because theyre so cheap. Theres no real way to achieve much power from a 253. Most 4-cylinder cars would flog one and i'm sure the old 202 would eat one as well. Best to buy a 308 model and give it a rebuild.

Save up and drop an injected 304 in it

i hope the vk really doesnt have one ??? it wasnt factory and only someone mentally disturbed would wanna put one in a model that dropped it cause it was hopeless.

VK 4.2 sounds cool, better than a carby3.3 and can be made to go fairly well with careful mods,it wont be as good as a 5.0 but wont be as thirsty obviously,Ive heard cold air tray, extractors and a cam will help.

The money you spent there could have gone on a bog stock 308 and it would have mauled the 2 fluffy 3. It's like buying a car with a 161 motor and working it up spending heaps, when a stock 202 will leave it for dead. Waste of money.

I think the only time u could make a good combo with a 253 is with a nice twin turbo boosted motor that u wanna be able to rev it highly, and they will rev better than a 308 and faster.. but then you'd wonder why rev more when u can make the same and more power with the 308 with less revs and more reliability. So honestly, the 253 is doomed.

buy the vk and just replace the 253 with a 308.but with the way fuel is these days id hate to see what its like to run a carby v8 these days.it was bad enough when it was 90cents a ltr for me.ive seen a couple 253's go alright thoe.

I never thought 253's had any torque, even standard 308's lack torque I reckon. A 202 with a holley and extractors has more torque.

or you could bolt on a blower or a big turbo. These blocks are worth nothing, there is sh!tloads sitting in wreckers and people paddocks. They are a dime a dozen. If you are able to do the mods yourself, then go all out on the 253. Or get a wet nos kit, forge the bottom end and run sh!tloads of nos through it.

They don't have torque at all. My old labouring boss had a 253 HZ ute carrying all his tools, vaccums, hammers drills and stuff and you could feel the thing strangling itself going up hills. He solved that issue by putting an injected 5.0 in. He can literally stay in 5th gear cruisng up the steepest of hills and I used to pitty the 5.0 as well.

dont they rev a lot harder than the 5 litre motor?

Id imagine a worked one would rev faster. The other night i was stuffing around driving home from the bottlo in the back streets just using the motors torque ( 5.0, manual and 3.5 gears) and i went 1st, 2nd, 3rd and still going jogging pace and it pulled out of there quite well up to 60 kays... so i tried it in fourth, it shuddered for about two seconds then got going. Not bad for a stock 308 with a bazillion k's on it.
