im in need of some advice on me cars sound system, mum has bought me some components and you are all right!! the companies lie about their products.
so this what iv'e got, what do i need to make it work reasonably?
head unit is a kenwood 45x4
200w 4'' speakers in front door
350w 6x9 in the parcel tray
2 visnik 12'' subs in sealed box 250wrms each 1000w max power
an amp that i got off ebay its 5 channel max power 4000w ha! ha! ha!
but its really {35x4 100x1}
what else is needed to get it going good [besides scraping the lot]
as i said im 16 this is my first car

mate it all sounds gd. do you have all the cables for it etc? (fuse rca's power cable triger wire) you may need spacers for the 6x9's to fit in the parcle shelf but i dont know cuz u have a ford:s. if u lived in wa ild giv u ahnd with it all but yeah.
if you are inspaling it all yourself it isnt as hard as it sounds but if you think your getting stuck go to your local dealer (audio not drugs) and ask them or ask someone on here.
gd luck mate

yeah ive got all the cables 4 it not sure about the triger wire though what is it?
some one told me that the amp that i got is not big enough 4 my subs and that i should get a 2 channel amp with higher rms or 2 mono block amps
the amp i got is only 5 channel [35x4wrms 100x1wrms]
i need to do it as cheap as possible thanks

trigger wire is from the headunit to the amp, so it turns on when the headunit is turned on, and so that it shuts off when the head unit is off.
100rms is nowhere near enough to power 2 subs, even one sub would be pushing it. better off getting one decent mono to run both subs.

ok i have got the remote lead it came with the rca leads that turns the amp on when the headunit is on.
the subs that i have got are wired sepretly.
so to hook up the both of them to a mono block do i put both + wires to the + channel and both - to the same channel
or get 2 mono block amps,or 1 good 2 channel amp this is were im havin the most trouble.
then do i face my subs towards the back seats or the tail lights
thanks

hay man ive got some ideas for ya mate and i tried to post tehm earlier and it screwed up on me so ill post wat i think u should do tomorrow and answer ur questions

definately get the mono block, just one, and wire 2 subs to it. put both + to the + on the amp, and both - to the negative on the amp. a two channel wont run two subs properly, much better off with a mono block, they are designed to run subs specifically

so what would the rms have to be on a mono block amp ?

250rms + 250rms = 500rms for ur subs
u shudnt need a monoblock a 2chan amp wud hook up to both ur subs and work well, but then u will need another amp to run the speakers (a 4 chan) so considering u already have the 4 chan u might as well buy a 2 chan and hook them both up..
but a monoblock would more than likely run them better.. what i had to do was get 0guage wire from my battery to the monoblock amp and then i had to get a.. cant remember what its called but it splits the wire into 2, u can but 1 bit of the wire to the 4chan and the other bit to the monoblock so that 1 oguage wire runs them both, it helps a bit...
meh im not 100% about all of this.. i got alot of help installing my system im just going by what i can remember

09-11-06, 21:29 GMT+10#11 if he gets a two channel it wont have enough power on each channel to power the sub unless he starts spendin up big. he could bridge it but then wouldnt be able to wire up the subs below 4 ohm, where as even a cheap jaycar monoblock can be safely wired down to 1 ohm. not only this monoblocks are designded purely for subs so they usually have beefier PSU's etc...

Exactly right. Have a look at the Jaycar 800w monoblock (www.jaycar.com.au) (http://www.jaycar.com.au)), great bang for your buck. Keep the 5 channel amp, run the speakers off the 4 speaker channels, leave the sub channel open. Run the monoblock to power the subs. You'll need to run atleast 4g from the battery, better to run 2G if possible (slightly more expensive by the metre, and battery terminals and stuff) But for power it would be the best. Then get a distro block and split the 2 or 4g into 2 for the amps, run a couple of sets of rca's and your pretty much set, you just piggy back the remote (trigger) wire on the amps and yeh.... pretty well done... lol

10-11-06, 10:31 GMT+10#13 now that i've said that about the two channel amps, i've seen a second hand RF with 400wrms per cahnnel at 2 ohm, definately enough to run the sub. its the same price as a new jaycar monoblock, same power, and much better quality, but it is second hand.... i like warranties

11-11-06, 14:26 GMT+10#15 for a sealed box, face the subs into the cabin
otherwise your boot rattle will sound terrible.
I have a ported box, with the sub facing into the cabin with the port facing to the passenger side of the car, and my boot, numberplate, tail lights all rattle. I'll post picture of my system later

11-11-06, 20:25 GMT+10#16 for better quality sound what way doi face them ? my boot and numberplate wont rattle much had a friends 15'' sub in it with his amp and then i went thru the car and used sillicon behind the number plate and on the frame in the boot and it dosent rattle as far as i know.

12-11-06, 11:05 GMT+10#17 most people will face it towards the boot for bass loading off it or some sh*t, cant remember the exact wording. just leave the cables long enough from the amp to the sub, then sit in the car and listen, then move the sub around, then listen again. keep goin till u find the right spot

15-11-06, 19:51 GMT+10#19 what brand amp? 1000rms is alot of power and makes me think its a good amp, somethin at a much higher level then the rest of your equipment....
some people swear by capacitors, most people that i have come across wouldnt touch them. just uprade all the earths to thicker guage cable, make sure you have a good battery too
you need your equipment, box for the subs, wires, fuses, tools, and a couple of mates to help out is always good too. a multimeter would be good if you know how to use one... i dont... lol
PS - just realised you have an EA falcon.... makes things heaps easier, mostly for the HU. have you seen whats required to get it out? you will need a special tool to undo the two screws that hold it in. only places i've seen this is in a big case full of those different little bits at tandy, think it was about $40 for the whole kit

the head unit is already in the car with my 6x9's the 5 channel amp 4 my speakers but the 4''speakers died when i was mucking aroud with the subchannel on my amp so i've got another 2 sets of 100watt max 4'' for the front doors the next thing i was thinking after i put the 1000watt amp in was the back doors dont have any speakers should i get a pair 6 1/2''speakers for them or put the 4''ones in or leave it with no speakers ??
whats the capacitor 4 ? not sure about how good my battery is but a 1.5 fared capacitor is cheap as a battery.
