no they dont! Stop farking around. Buy a 28 spline center and bearing kit for 500 and find yourself a set of 28 spline vlt axles and put it in your housing! It is the only way! If not buy a 2nd hand turbo diff!

so you have a 4 pinion Borg warner center and no carrier? Or is it worn out?

Im planning on running a Lokka with 28 spline side gears, and was under the impression I could run this setup in my 25 spline carrier as the Lokka is produced for both 25 and 28 spline setups. If the Lokka is the same unit for both 25 and 28 spline I assumed that I could simply substitute the 25 spline gears for 28 spline ones and use my existing carrier.
Just got off the phone with 4WD Systems and they tell me that the 25 spline unit is NLA, but they were were exactly the same unit as the 28 spline unit bar a few changes to some minor parts. This suggests to me that both units were interchangable between either carrier.
Is the R31 28 spline carrier compatible with the VL housing and VLT axles? Obviously their alot more common than VLT items.

Yes, the Skyline is the same.
I'll check my 25 and 28 spline carriers for you tonight.
The Lokka might fit should fit your 25 spline carrier when you gut it and they come with the new 28 spline side gears, which is really the only difference.

This is the info I'm after! Was gonna ask you tonight but since you've replied already, cheers Matt your a champ!
I rang 4WD Systems and they pretty much have no idea what their product will fit, basically all they know is that they sell it. Great help
Btw, they said the new version with the new side gears was "very close to being released" which might explain the waiting time on yours mate.

I have read some bad stuff about these Lokka diffs somewhere. They are apparently weak in the spider gears! Maybe that is why there is a new design on the way!

Thats pretty funny considering they have no spider gears!
I think what your referring to is the side gears, which typically fail when the original ones are used. Smart people replace the side gears upon installation, but the new Lokka incorporates new stronger sides gears included with the unit.

Thats is what I meant my friend, side gears, spider gears depends on how you look at it, no need to be over protective like I'm trying to touch your pee pee
Anyways I was reading on a website as I looked into these as well some time ago as I thought hey locker diff, great
So I got onto some 4x4 forum and they were talking about the Lokka's in particular as there were quite a few guys saying dont touch them as they were breaking them in conditions that their normal LSD diffs were quite capable behind fairly std combinations.
Then I read something in a thread and I think it was on here about a couple of guys with fairly std cars breaking them. I know TEMPEST has a proper detroit locker in his and reckons it is awesome but for the money they are not exactly budget concious. At the end of the day you guys do as you wish

Lokka don't offer a 31 spline unit, you'd have to look to Detroit for that I reckon mate.

I find it highly unlike that any 4wd'er would actually praise a factory LSD, not one LSD that I know of is capable of true off road work. Sure they break Lokka's, but half the blokes that break em are rock crawlers and the other half dont know how to wheel. Anything will break if you stress it hard enough, and anyway the only reported breakages are the shear pins.

Anything is an improvement over a single spinner!
Noise isn't a concern, its not a daily driver so I'll enjoy driving it whether its noisy or not. For that same reason, I cant justify the cost of a Detroit. As for the locking, I know of someone who has run a low 11 (~282rwkw) with a Lokka with no problems whatsoever. VHR32 is currently waiting for his to arrive so I'll wait for his verdict before I leap into a purchase.
The main problem the 4X4 boys seem to have is a lack of steering control when installed in the front, which to me explains the negative response from some users.

Youll get that with a locked front diff!

Actually you will find many 4wders still running a factory LSD if not shimmed up and generally with upgraded hub locks! Do a google search and have a seriously good read through some of this stuff, like I did. I decided against one after reading some of them and working out the costs. There is a thread on here about them from around 12 months ago as well if you have not already read it!
And side gears, spider gears i really dont care mate.

I was in the 4WD scene for a few years back in the day and never heard one good word said about factory LSD's. Those who are still running factory LSD's are the one's who are currently saving up for Air Lockers.
"Upgraded" hub locks do nothing except the same thing as the factory ones, connect drive to the front wheels.
I've read a fair few threads on Suzishop, Overlander, 4WD Monthly and OuterLimits about the Lokka. The problem is they are all obviously opinions heavily biased on offroad performance.

Understandable every one has their view. Thing that turned me off it though was the cost vs a new LSD centre that I can bolt straight up! I still havent done the diff yet and it is the only mechanical part of my car that is still original from Holden. It has copped much abuse and held up pretty well! I guess you do what you want to do man!
