While searching for the solution to a auto transmission problem i've got, i found a great diagnostics function that was posted some years ago (by wagon01) but never fully explained to my knowledge. It allows you to perform a self-diagnostic test on the transmission electronic control unit (ECU) fairly easily. The diagnostic flow chart (originally posted by wagon01, sorry for the size) is as follows: The detent switch is the switch underneath the driver's side lower dash panel that triggers when the accelerator is depressed fully. All you have to do is push the PWR button in (not in power mode), put an elastic band around the detent switch so that it always thinks the car is on full throttle, then follow the chart. Mine flashed once a second when parked, i'm interested to know if anyone else's does the same and their transmission is fine. BTW - it's quite interesting driving around with the detent switch engaged all the time. Probably pretty bad for the trans/engine tho... ************************************** The actual problem I have is that i've just had a s/h auto turbo box installed which never engages the overdrive gear. My old box never had a problem with going into overdrive - as soon as it was warm it would kick in perfectly every time. My diagnostics using the above test resulted in a one-second flashing while parked, and the flashing stopped as soon as i went over 15km/h (the power light went out completely). The overdrive cancel solenoid seems to be wired and not damaged externally, but can anyone tell me where the connector that joins this to the trans ECU would be located? I assume it's not directly wired. From what I can gather, it seems as though the overdrive cancel solenoid needs to be powered in order to disable (cancel) the overdrive/4th gear. Does this mean that my solenoid is constantly powered? Is there a way i can check for this (ie pulling the connectors off the trans ECU and seeing if it will go into overdrive once over 60km/h)? Or is it more likely that the solenoid is stuffed and stuck in the cancel position? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The od solenoid is energized (12v) to disable od So to engage od u remove 12v from The solenoid. All the ecu controls is the od solenoid and the converter lockup on na models. U can just remove the ecu and wire a relay and switch for od as is done when converting to full manual Valve body
