Hey guys....just weighing up my options for my new engine (Old 202ci is abt to blowwww lol). Is is possible to put an rb26dett into a VK? If so? what mods would need to be done? Is it as easy as conversion as the rb30et?
And roughly how much would it cost for a 2nd hand one? Im looking to get it rebuilt as well. Is it a good idea? let me know your thoughts as im new to this. Cheers

Short answer : Yes you could a 26 into the VK.
Time effort and hassle - buy a VLT.

he's taken the pics out though. just use VL engine mounts and put the EFI gear in, it'll be right.

why do you need to rebuild it? if ur getting a good rb26dett.. its gonna go hard as anything in any car u put it in.. the things gonna be an animal in a vk.. why not save some cash and just put the stock 26 in there?

Something I have always wanted to do. Stock RB26DETT with a few bolt on mods produces pretty good grunt, so if you get a good one then it shouldnt need rebuilding

The replacement for your 202 would be around $500?, while an RB26det conversion can cost up to $10k!
Big difference.

05-10-06, 12:38 GMT+10#12 I know how cheap the 202's are........can pcik one up for $300. But ive spent the money already on fixing it so i want to spend the extra $$$ when i said rebuild i actually jsut meant strip the engine and check everything.I wanna keep it stock....for the time being. It was either that or a 1uzfe v8 from a lexus...the latter being heaps cheaper for the conversion.....still not sure

05-10-06, 15:30 GMT+10#14 I've seen on ebay a while back a VK with an rb26dett. Probably an idea to get an old bomb vl for some of the under bonnet bits to make the engine fit right. Pastical on here has installed an rb30e into his vk, so its is very do-a-ble...
I'm about to strip down an old VH for a complete build up, it currently has a 2.85ltr (5 speed model) which runs very well for its age. I'll be looking at dropping an RB30E into it for 3 reasons.
1) I've got an old vl sitting at my olds, body is a wrote off, but the running gear is still good, easy trasplant.
2) More power, more economical, and EFI
3) My mrs claimed 'dibbs' when i 1st brought it and pulled into the driveway *sigh* (at least she didnt call dibbs on my vlt wagon when i 1st got that ).
If I didnt have this written off vl, i'd be sourcing parts for a while (easy, as people are always selling on here). Need things like fuel tank, wiring, ecu, (fuse box for me as the vh didnt have a fuse panel under the bonnet), and more, i'll find out when i start doing it.
If you are putting a DETT into it, make sure you get the breaks and diff to cover it. dont forget a gearbox, and how much extra will is cost to insure (or however you spell it)? converting from an n/a setup to a turbo setup, especially big engine transplants, can be quite costy, because you want to do it right 1st time.
Anyway, /end brag. Should go for it dude, will look good and sound great , just remember all the costs/work involved, but dont let that discourage you. It'll be worth doing when its finished

05-10-06, 16:18 GMT+10#15 You'll need to change the turbos, they are a time bomb... if one fails (being ceramic) it generally takes the 5th or 6th cyclinder down with it, being its the rear turbo that dies.
You can get a mild upgrade, or just have them rebuilt with steel wheels. Either one works... but if you do it, change the turbos.
It can be done, but you wanna make sure the RB26 has come from a good home... and R33 or R34 motor if you dont intend to rebuild it soon.
R32 26's are that old and tend not to last that long
Motor 5k
Gearbox (RB25) 1.5k
Clutch 1.2
Thats 8k without labour or turbos, so your looking at over 10k if you want to make it a reliable conversion rather than a timebomb which will just cost you more coin

05-10-06, 16:39 GMT+10#16 5k is alot of money for just the motor with no turbo's, I was poking around yesterday and the going price seems to be $5500 for an R33 GTR halfcut.

05-10-06, 17:49 GMT+10#17 You want a motor thats as new as possible if you dont wanna rebuild it, so spending extra coin can save hassle later
If you shop around you could work it for around 4.5k... but its just some pricing to get it started and point out the expense of it all

05-10-06, 19:44 GMT+10#18 dude buy a VL crossmember, rip out the pos 202, whack in a rb25 + box + ecu, diff, breaks and exhaust and your pretty much away. That should be about 6K no labour then buy a TT manifold whack on two T03's and run it haha GO THE VK.
or just put in a LS1 for the same price for the 26 conversion

DO THAT id do it if i wasnt poor
ok guys aware the link dont work its something like that

05-10-06, 20:16 GMT+10#19 thanks for yr advice guys its a decent amount of $$$ but am sure u guys know its worth it neways im also highly considering the 1uzfe v8 from the lexus. You can pick up one for 1.5k, the most expensive part is the ecu and wiring. The exhaust needs to be changed.......u could get it done for abt 4k. They also have stroker kits, 8throttle body manifolds and cam upgrades (quad cam) readily available and not too expensive. I found a 1uzfe on the net stroked to 4.7litres with cams and 8throttle putting putting out 350kw. I want something different....there's nothing like a quad cam 6bolt main stroked efi v8 with possible blower or twins in the future ........besides a vlt lmao

05-10-06, 20:56 GMT+10#20 Mate,
If you go the 1uzfe then you obviously havent driven a decent turbo charged car in your life cuz when the boost comes on hard so does the smile.
I do also own a VY SS with exhaust and extractors which is about the performance you will get with a tweek of the zfe and I can tell you which I prefer to drive.
Also check out how much he has spent to get it to 350kw all the throttle bodies and other sheeit.
If your on a budget stick with the 202 as things get expensive quick.
An RB26dett drop in or 25 drop in or maybe a 1JZ(Cheap but custom engine mounts etc) would be the best(Cheapest) option.
Anyway you look at it if you will be up for about 10 g's so choose your engine. You want a cheap option go a 308(Dont need a mod plate in Qld Anyway) or 350 chev carby conversion and rebuild. This is cuz any engine your talking about running a stock ecu wont punch out 350kw. Custom computers cost you and so do power fc's etc and bolt on's.
